Does it really take a thousand executives in the background to make a cup of coffee? Ha, Starbucks only got five bucks from me, the wait at the Venezuelan consulate was far longer than expected in downtown Chicago, my 24 hour thermos was in my car twelve blocks a way, and was dying for a cup of coffee. Didn't think it was all that hot for five bucks and was about that much more for a tiny little donut. Is far above my immigration that a chain could be built up just selling coffee and donuts, and way overpriced ones at that. Gee, for far less than that, could have way overstuffed myself at our local international restaurant with a huge slab of roast beef I can cut off as much as I want and only the best part. Not to mention the tons of shrimp, grilled salmon, roast pork, ham, huge salad and desert bar. Ha, skip a cup of coffee there, they want an extra two bucks for that.

Menard's store was selling 34.5 ounce cans of Chase and Sanborn coffee for three bucks a can, purchased a dozen, but that is gone now. but they use to put three pounds of coffee in that same size can. Do stock up a little when I see in on sale for five bucks a can, seems to be running around eight bucks a can lately.

Did read that Dunkin Donuts has the finest coffee, makes sense, not all coffee beans are equal, when batch roasted, the smaller beans will burn, makes sense to me when baking cookies, larger are raw, smaller are burnt, all have to be the same size. Well Dunkin Donuts is suppose to screen those burnt beans and dump them having the lowest percentage of poor beans in the industry. Found a one pound bag of this coffee at my grocery store for nine bucks a pound, thought about it, but grabbed the two and half buck a pound coffee instead. Maybe for my birthday, but that may spoil me, or maybe I have developed a taste for burnt beans and won't even like it.

I think it is a bit odd they intend to lay off people, as traditionally during recession people can't afford the truly luxurious items so food and beverage still thrive. I guess $4 for a coffee is easier to stomach rather than $100 for a pair of jeans.

Even Starbucks is getting hit

Maybe they get hit so hard because of all these do-gooder 'financial experts' that you see on every morning show - telling you how to tighten your belt in this recession.

Inevitably they say 'just doing away with your triple latte smatte each morning will save you a gazillion dollars a year'

I don't know, but if I was in the coffee business I would be a bit ticked.

They never say stuff like 'give up those two cases of beer a week'. :hehe:

No surprise here.

Given that you can buy a fresh bag of coffee beans for the equivalent of two visits to Starbucks, I am surprised this didn't happen sooner. What a waste of money.

I only visit Starbucks when travelling for work.

I'll admit I do love an Iced Caramel coffee. Although McDonald's Iced Caramel coffee is also rather yummy.

Okay. I now need an iced coffee! Who fancies getting me one???? Hmmmm??? :P
