Another big round of layoffs is expected at Starbucks, possibly 1,000 people — a third of its headquarters employees — and some district managers and field employees, according to an e-mail sent to a stock brokerage's customers Friday.

"The cuts might be next week or in February," wrote Diane Daggatt, a managing director at McAdams Wright Ragen in Seattle.

Starbucks declined to comment on possible layoffs. The Seattle coffee company releases its first-quarter results on Wednesday.

No barista jobs are in jeopardy, Daggatt wrote.

No surprise here.

Given that you can buy a fresh bag of coffee beans for the equivalent of two visits to Starbucks, I am surprised this didn't happen sooner. What a waste of money.

I only visit Starbucks when travelling for work.

Dunkin Donuts still has plenty of illegal workers so the service is still good. Don't go to Starbucks anymore.

Now we are talking about Doughnuts.... Krispy Kreme doughnuts are the best on the planet..

"F" coffee, if Krispy Kreme doughnuts are involved!!

There's a Krispy Kreme factory somewhere in PA not a terribly far drive from me, people have been urging me to pay it a visit for years...

Check it out dude, these doughnuts rock big time!!!

You will weigh 200 kilos if you eat them regularly, but they are a treat in moderation.

The only KK in my area went out of business two years ago. Their expansion plans didn't work out too good. But damn, the donuts were good!

Scary stuff. We haven't heard much from Chris' brother lately, but I know he was very worried about his job last time we spoke to him. Hopefully he's still around the head office come February. :(

William, have you tried Lamars Donuts? I think they have the best glazed donuts around...

Indeed!! Lamars donuts are very good also. However, if you spend time in a KK shop, you will see the doughnuts being made fresh. I have often times been offered a free doughnut, fresh from the production line. That is hard to beat.

KK's coffee is great too. And it's real coffee. Not like Starbucks' artificial flavoured milk. Over here it's still popular though, bankers and teenagers seem to thing holding an American style paper cup adds a biiiiig amount of cool. Plus €4.50 for a smal chai latte that is made from syrup and has never seen a teabag...come on.

I feel bad for the people who lose their jobs though.
