All his documents have the same birth date. I hesitate to ask, but why does he think the birth date is wrong? The reason I ask, is unless he has some type of proof that the date is incorrect to prove the need to change it, why are you considering it a lie, or "deception" as someone else on this thread labeled it. My husband felt the date on his passport was incorrect and it was the only ID he had besides work IDs. I asked him why he thought it was wrong and he just felt that it was wrong and he and his brothers discussed it. I asked him to find some proof of it being wrong. He eventually got his Burkina Faso passport (he has dual citizenship) and found that the date was actually correct. He thought he was 2 years younger than he really is. His parents don't remember any of their birth dates. They're both alive, but they don't know their own birth dates and it's not something their tribe sees as important. Age is relative to the others that are still living, rather than a number. So, I say all this to say that while he may feel he is younger, unless he has proof of his age, which he would need to change his birth certificate anyway, just leave everything as it is.

I would also add that someone on this board previously (maybe LL) had an incident where their spouse lost all the documentation in a taxi and had to replace everything. The Consulate put them under AR because all of his documents were brand new and that was a red flag. You have all the documents stating the exact same information. I don't think you should complicate an already complicated process.

WELL SAID Zainab! I wouldn't complicate an already complicated situation. UNLESS there is documentation or your fiance's physical appearance making him look younger then the 8 years increase in age, I would not bother. If your fiance went through the military with that ID, and had no problems..I really do not see the problem now. If you are worried that some documentation or paperwork will show up somehow showing that your fiance is younger then his current age, then you need to find that document or paperwork in order to use that as the basis to change his age to 8 years younger. You cannot just go and request to make adjustments to your Birth Certificate, ID or any legal document unless you have documentation and a good reason in order for the change to happen. So my advice is to use your own judgement...is this change worth waiting the extra time it will take to make the change and if you are going to make the change what document or paperwork can you show the current birth date and age of your fiance?

Good luck with whatever decision you decide.

Well, his birth certificate and everything has the same date. Absolutely everything was changed 10 years ago, it's just that he clearly is NOT 33 years old. That's my biggest concern-that they will look at him and know that that's not his real age. In the same breath, he is apparently registered in the computer system (not just on a piece of paper) as being 33 years old. If we change it, he loses his history-everything that he's done up to this point gets lost. ugh. i don't know.

Oh here is something funny that I just found for ya! Akon doesn't know his real age and guess where he is from...Senegal... :P

Akon claims he doesn't know his true age

01/21/2009 3:00 PM, AP

Nekesa Mumbi Moody

Even though Akon has a birth certificate, he says his age is still a mystery — and he'd rather keep it that way. "All it's going to do is depress me," he told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "I don't want to know I'm getting older. Then I'll start to think about getting checkups and insurance. I don't want that."

Numerous reports have put his age between 25 to 35 years old. In 2006, he gave his age as 25. But now, he claims his birth certificate shows he was born on April 16, 1977, which would make him 31.

Some have accused Akon of trying to push back his age. But the singer, who was born in the United States but spent his early life in Senegal, where his family is from, says he never knew it.

"In Africa ... age is not important over there. They don't care. People only focus on it here (America) and in Europe." Akon says when people ask, he just gives him a figure that comes to mind.

"I feel like I'm 21 right now," he says. "And I'll be 21 for the next 10 years."

Akon went multiplatinum with his 2006 CD "Konvicted," which included hits such as "Smack That" with Eminem and "Don't Matter." His most recent album, "Freedom," was released in December.

Gurl, he was born right here in America. He knows how old he is, he's just pathological! It has nothing to do with his heritage.

I read Olivia's post last night and they reported the same thing on a local radio station this morning. I did not know he was born in the US. I always thought he was born in Senegal.

I saw a documentary on him and I think it said he was born and (mainly) raised in OH or somewhere in the Northeast. His dad was a famous singer in Senegal and his mother is either American or a VERY Americanized African woman. She barely had an accent.

If he really wanted to change all his paperwork, I really don't think it would be all that difficult in Senegal. In other countries yes, but my experience in W. Africa has shown me that you pretty much go to the ministry for a birtch certificate and tell them what you want them to put on it. When my fiance got his passport, he didn't specify the birthdate so they just picked one out of the sky then he had to have it made again with the right date. All of his documents were brand spankin' new because he'd never had a need for them prior to this visa process and that was not an issue in Dakar.

Everybody has their own opinion, but me personally, I would have trouble lying if I knew for sure the date was wrong. Any sort of lie on a visa application, if discovered, is considered visa fraud. On the other hand, somebody already mentioned that if there's no other proof out there of the date being wrong, it may never be an issue. You will have to make the decision that is best for you and your fiance.

What is the most important thing, as it's been already said, is that the dates on all his papers match. What's even more important is that they all match what you put on the I129F.

Dakar can be tough, that's for sure, so make sure you dot every I and cross every T. They will want to see real proof of your relationship and lots of it. I've been through all the ####### at that embassy so PM me if you have questions about the processes there. I'm so happy to be done with them!

It took us a year for my fiance to get his K1 visa. We went through 8 months of AP for security clearance never knowing when it was going to end. I had the same "OMG am I going to have to move to Africa?" thoughts you are having now throughout the whole process. Now he's here! You'll need to have a lot of patience and faith on the journey ahead, but it will all unfold as it is meant to be.

Bonne chance!
