AOS interview notice for child

Hello All,

Here is what has happened so far... Filed AOS applications for both wife and 12 yr old daughter, sent together in one envelope. They each received a separate notice of receipt on the same day. Later, they each received seperate biometrics appointment notices on the same day and the appointments were scheduled for the same day as well. Now, a couple of weeks ago, my wife received notice for interview appointment, but nothing yet for our daughter. Is it assumed that she will accompany mom because of her age? We were under the impression that children had their own interview, so we were expecting a separate interview notice, hopefully for the same day as it a long drive and requires an overnight stay.

Anyone with experience??

Thanks

You will most likely get the interview notice for the daughter within a couple days. We, like you, submitted both applications in the same envelope. My daughters (9) biometrics appointment letter was separate as was her interview notice which came a couple days after mine but the actual interview was for the same day 15 minutes after mine. They did not interview her separate however, just did it all at the same time. Afterwards we both got our separate welcome letters and separate envelopes with separate green cards. The interviewer says that when it is time to lift conditions however she will just fall in under me for that. So, if anything like ours, both interviews will be for the same time/day.

My daughter is also 12 and her schedule is 30 minutes after mine.. in July.

What kind of questions do they ask children?

My daughter (age 7) got her own seperate interview letter for the same day as mine but 30 minutes later.

They asked her:

Her name

Her age

If she knew her address/phone number

What grade

Her teacher's name

Her best friends name

If her step daddy plays games with her/what kind

And how she likes living in Alabama.

All other questions about her (the questions she played shy for), and documents they needed were directed at me and my husband.

Thanks for the info...

Did your children receive their letters the same day or at least close to the same day as you received yours? We are wondering whether we will be dealing with the infamous lost in the mail scenario. Who can I contact to find out if a letter was sent?

Thanks again

Did you check your status online? If they show the same LUDs, the 2 mails should arrive on the same day..

I hope more members will share their children's interview experience.

I am more concerned on how stressful it may be for my child than for me and my husband. I'd like to honestly assure her that it will not be too bad..

I have checked online. Both applications show the standard original receipt message, with an update date just after biometrics were done, that was seven weeks ago. Nothing about sending an interview notice, not even on my wife's and we have the interview notice for her.???

We received the letters on the same day. The interviews are 30 minutes apart. We never got a change on the status page.

I wouldn't expect them to be too hard on a kid. Adress and phone number is pretty clever. Wouldn't that be a big flag for fraud if a 14 year old didn't know the address or phone number?

Maybe give a call to ensure it was not lost in the mail and ease your mind.

We were very lucky to have our interview together. When my daughter got shy with answering it was hard not to talk for her or encourage her but we just stayed quiet and let it happen as it did. All she was asked, and it was more casual in the asking for her which was nice, was;

What school she went to

Did she like school here

How was it different from school in Canada

From that question the interviewer got off on a discussion about a russian boy who came here and was years ahead in math so she left my daughter alone after that and moved the focus back to us. They are trained to read people and how they respond to the questions just as much as what they say. We talked with her before going in for the interview and prepped her, saying just answer the best you can and if you dont know the answer to any questions just say so, that it is ok not to know. She was well practised by now going through customs each time she flys back to visit her dad. They ask some pretty complicated and odd questions she says.

My sons interview letter came about 3 days after I received mine.

My son is 17. All they asked him was for his name, address, phone number, and on the AOS form you send in, they asked him if that was his signature on it. That was it for him.

His interview was for 30 mins later than mine, but we all went in together.

Well, I called customer service and as usual they could only tell me what I already knew. We are currently processing cases from blah, blah, blah.... I asked if she could tell me if anything had been sent, she could not. She told me that we have two separate cases and that they could be working on one and not the other. I told her that everything so far has been received together and scheduled together and that I had knowledge that other people and children had received there notices at the same time....She said "only coincidence".

Is there some way that a person can actually talk with someone in the USCIS? Maybe local office? I say "local", but it is actually 4 hrs away. Do they have telephones at these places?
