How good of you to summarize the research conducted by sinergy.

kinda reminds me of someone else. :innocent:

I did the research and answered the question accurately yesterday, guys. Don't get your panties in a wad.

The answer that you provided today, was, in fact, a summarization of the research that sinergy provided. The answer you provided yesterday didn't actually answer the question and is different than the summarization you provided today.

Horse feathers. I went to the Kent County Clerks webpage before providing my first answer. Check it out yourself and see if there's any information contained in later posts that can't be seen there. Why does it matter? Michigan and nearly every other State (Don't ask me which one's haven't because I don't know or care. Maybe they all have by now.) have provisions for people without SSN's to marry. It's how visiting foreigners get married, for heaven's sake. All I did was to check and make sure Michigan wasn't one of the holdouts if there still are any. As a border State, I couldn't imagine SSN's would be required.

He knew his answer was not all accurate, and when he saw mine he used it. we all saw it, he cant hide much anymore, his condesending ways are showing through more and more.

What was inaccurate about my first answer?

To be fair Pushbrk..your answer to the OP in the begining was " go check your county website" others chose to offer a more detailed, exact and informative response - it really does like you climbed on the back of the wagon padding out your next reply with what had already been offered by others - which fine but at least give credit where credit is due?

Or and by the way one defination of inaccurate is:

adjective

not exact; "an inaccurate translation"; "the thermometer is inaccurate"

You were married in Michigan and are sure of this?

The reason I'm asking is I know it varies state to state.

It varies from county to county in some states, HOWEVER last year the US Supreme court ruled, in the case of a Tennesee county, that it was unconstitutional to REQUIRE a SSN to get married. If Michigan has a loophole, such as "it is required unless there is a reason you don't have one" then their law would be OK.

But what's the problem? Your fiancee can get an SSN the moment she gets off the plane and she will need to do it anyway, so why not make it your first step?

We were married in MI (Dickinson County) - my husband had a SSN because he recieved the temporary EAD on entry. However I do not think that they asked to see it. They did ask for his birth cert and passport.

Just thought I'd drop by to add that often the information posted on a Clerk's website is not completely accurate.

Many County Clerk's have other rules or will bend rules under certain circumstance.

Bottom line - if you want to know what the REAL requirements are for the county you will marry in, then use the Clerk's website to learn their phone number. Then pick up the phone and ask to speak to someone in the license department.

And - don't give advice based upon what you read on a Clerk's website. For the same reason as I listed above.

Got Marriage license and got married in Ingham County, Lansing, Michigan in 2007. According to their website of Ingham County Clerk, we were suppose to show passport, visa status, and driver's license. My husband was on F1 and I was H1B.

At the Clerk's office, we were only asked to fill out the marriage license application and show driver's license. We wrote about general Biometric info, such as mother's name, father's name, birth place, birth day etc. Clerk made copies of our DL and handed out the marriage license. In the application, there was nothing about legal status or ssn to file out.

Things may have change since though. Check with your county clerk's office. Just ask them what to bring to apply marriage license. Congrats!
