I can't believe this! Apparently there were six "incomplete" things on my form and so they're sending it back for me to make corrections!! I thought I'd done everything right :( . They can't tell me what it is that's wrong with it, only that it's not that documents are missing. I hope this means that it's just minor errors??

Anyway, this puts us back at least an extra couple of weeks...so depressing! And as far as I can tell Montreal is still taking four months or so to schedule so the best we can hope for now is the end of October.

I had that happen too. I forgot to fill out an address. Such a stupid mistake. But it won't be forever, just hang in there.

I'm so sorry, HumanUnit!

I understand what you're going through. They sent me back my DS-230 to be corrected, too. It was easy to correct. The mistake involved me not putting where I lived from age 16 to 16 and 8 months old. :(

Yes, 8 months makes a HUGE difference.

Now, I'm still waiting for case complete. I just hope that that was the only correction I've had to make. They better not send me back my form for more corrections!

I didn't quite understand, they just return your DS-230 just to correct and put it in the form where you lived when you were 8 months old? In that case i need to re-send another DS-230 to my wife. Thanks

I think Cygnet meant they wanted a record of residence at the age of 16 years and 8 months old. Not 8 months old as in when you are a baby!

yeah... 'cause the form says any duration greater than 6 months from age 16. Looks like they're following it to the letter. Time to double check everything! At least it sounds like the point out all the errors to you and tell you to correct them instead of just saying that the form was filled out incorrectly, tossing it and telling you to submit another - which is what I would have really expected from a government agency. ttyl,

I looked over my copy and can't see anything that could be wrong! I hope they do let me know precisely what's wrong with it because I don't think I'd be able to figure it out otherwise.

Yes, that's what I meant. I neglected to tell them where I was for 8 months after my 16th birthday. I started with 16 years and 9 months instead of from EXACTLY 16 years of age.

What they did was encircle the number in red pencil (in my case question 20) and then wrote in their letter that I need to tell them where I lived since turning 16.

It is better to make copies of any forms that we send to NVC, USCIS. Then when we review the photocopies, often we can find out imcomplete things. Before mailing out the forms, it is better to have someone, like a friend/family member check the forms for completeness. Sometimes, a friend/family member can find incomplete things which we fail to see.

Edited by simple_male

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Wow. That sounds incredibly helpful. I mean, yeah, better if they just don't worry about a few months, but circling it and giving you a letter telling you what to fix is spiffy. :) So it sounds like it will be easier for HumanUnit to amend the form. So Cygnet, did you just correct it right on the form, add another attachment with the amendments, file a second corrected form attached to the first, or just sumbit an altogether new one with all the fixes? I ask 'cause it might be helpful for HumanUnit to know what to expect. In the last couple cases, some work might be done ahead of time to be ready. :) HumanUnit, please let us know what minor details about which they are being picky... if they're looking for nits to pick, then we'll make sure the community is ready for them! Smart thinkin' having photocopies handy for review. I hope it's quick, easy, and that your time lost is minimal. ttyl,

Well, there wasn't much space on the form but I managed to write "See additional sheet". I used the same form (with the red pencil) so that they know I only needed to correct that one number). And because I already had an additional sheet (which they didn't send back to me), I submitted another attachment with the heading "Revised DS-230 Additional Sheet". On it, I had all the info from the 1st version as well as the extra information they were looking for. I also wrote a cover letter telling them what corrections I made.

I have not heard from them yet. I hope everything is fine and that I get a case complete soon. :(

HumanUnit, if it makes you feel any better, there are people only waiting 3 months for interviews now. I had case complete March 24 and have a July 19 interview, but people with case completion in late April are getting July interviews as well.
