Thanks for the personal attacks princess. I love it when we in America disagree with people and then throw fightin words at them instead of listening to their perspective, even if we disagree, then making a counter point.

Im listening to you Slim and its fine to disagree but man you are off your rocker. Won't be long til she realizes it too.

I wonder if Elena knows ..." I'll tell you a quick story.

Back in 2000 we were talking about the Russian war in Chechnya. (Also a very interesting subject.) I was asking her what the Russian take on the situation was, how the people felt, what was really going on, etc. Her answer: "There is lot of gold in mountains in Chechnya.... Russian peoples don't want fighting with Chechnya peoples.... but Russian governement wants gold. That is real reason why there is war."

We should get along just fine in our political views.

#######? That is ridiculous and is no comparison to the war going on. Give her time once she learns English really well and understands what your saying it will be "buh bye".

As far as her learning English well and figuring out that I'm F'd up... I don't know. We had that conversation in English, and I believe the point of her story was that her government didn't mind killing people who it deemed "2nd class citizens" in their pursuit of natural resources. (Oil was brought up too, as was the fact that Chechnya is the only region on the borders of Russia that wasn't permitted to be declared an independent state after the USSR broke up. Then we went on to discuss how the US had no problem helping places like Taiwan secede from their former countries, but was reluctant to help the Chechans.) I can't help but think of our conversation back then every time I think about the US Government involvement in Iraq. (And yes, the "war on terror" in Iraq is linked to the "war on terror" in Chechnya.)

charlesandnessa... please be careful! You've already suggested military vets and kids as potential terrorists. Before we know it... one of us might be a potential terrorist. I know you were just being sarcastic, but that's all it takes. One government official to label this particular group as "terrorist" or that particular group...

THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY POINT!!!!

Do you not think we're all labeled as terrorist supporters by the other side for paying taxes to the US Government?

Thanks for the personal attacks princess. I love it when we in America disagree with people and then throw fightin words at them instead of listening to their perspective, even if we disagree, then making a counter point.

Doesnt change the fact that the terrorists are killing Iraqis at a rate of 40:1 to 90:1 depending on the month.

Secondly, your entire "Red Dawn" point is totally invalid because you are automatically assuming that the Iraqis liked Saddam, yet you also point out how he crushed rebellions.

Saddam is responsible for the deaths of 1.4 to 1.7 million people. In addition he repeatidly broke U.N. resolutions.

You also never responded to my posts that called you on the carpet over your Zarqawi = G. Washington comments, and the death statistics I pulled up. Afraid of the truth?

You also state you were trained by the U.S. government...Military? If so what branch?

OK. George Washington advocated the secession of the American colonies from British rule, then was placed in charge of all Continental forces. (Washington was trained by the British to be a military officer.) I don't know if King George had the "American Revolution" deck of cards, but if he did, George Washington would've been the ace of spades. Not only did he rally the Continental Congress to declare independence, but he took command of all military forces in the colonies and led them against the British government. (INSURGENCY, ANYONE???) Did he personally behead a British communictions contractor? (Maybe like a carrier-pigeon caretaker?) Did he set up mortar shells to go off in Boston? (Inside a covered wagon parked next to the pier?)

No. He did not. But what he did do was advocate the violent over-throw of the British government and lead anyone (civilians included) that wanted to engage in active hostile actions against them. He conspired with foreign fighters, (the French, who saved our @$$es, but most Americans don't choose to remember that) and personally led the campaign that ultimately unseated British occupation in the region. I don't know if the word "terrorist" was in wide circulation back then, but if it would've been, King George would've undoubtedly labeled Washington as a "terrorist." (And subsequently, the papers in London would've been telling those Londoners who were literate.... "Washington crosses the Delaware river, leading thousands in act of terrorism against the crown.")

I'm curious... who exactly are the "left wingers" in this thread?! Please idenitfy yourselves so it is public record.

I myself am a 12 year veteran, and am currently working for the MDA (Missile Defense Agency) and BMD (Ballistic Missile Defense) agencies through a contractor. I have worked either directly, or indirectly for the DoD for 24 years, and I have worked with the Navy, Army, and Air Force. It's one thing to "talk to talk", as opposed to "walk the walk". I know there are some other veterans posting in this thread, but for those of you who have never been in the military, please don't preach about the military and the government to those of us who have.

Thank you.

I spent the better part of 7 years in the US Air Force (where I was trained in, among other things, anti-terrorism/force protection (ATFP)) with four deployments to the Middle-East in support of Operations; Southern Watch, Desert Fox, and Enduring Freedom. (I was just outside of Riyadh on September 11th, 2001, and I was in Qatar at the end of '02, but went to Korea just before the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom.)

In Saudi Arabia, while Clinton was busy staining blue dresses, I was busy discussing the finer points (and not so fine points) of Islam with my host-nation, and third-country (the Saudis are so rich they can pay people from other countries to guard their military bases for them) allies. This of course was highly discouraged by the chain-of-command. We weren't there to understand why the monarchy or the US Gov. did what it did, but moreover to do it. One day, while there was a base-sponsored bazaar (some vendors came onto our Air Base to sell rugs and smoking accessories and little swords and fake Rolexes, Ray Bans, etc.) there was a tent set up by the Saudi Information Ministry or something like that. All these American service members were out shopping for junk that they didn't need, and here were several Saudis trying to teach Americans about Islam, and the Kingdom. Needless to say, their tent wasn't very busy, even with the free camel rides right outside. I talked with them for a while, but more importantly, I took a copy of every book they offered. I learned a lot about the Kingdom and about Islam, and while talking with coworkers for the rest of the deployment, I was shocked at the unawareness most Americans had about the region and the religion. It wouldn't have been shocking if I were discussing it with people at my home base in the States, but I was discussing it with people right there in the Middle East.

I realized then that the average American could care less what was going on outside of America, and could be counted on even less to make an open-minded decision about anything not directly relating to them or their family. Although.... even uneducated, ignorant, and close-minded, they were more than willing to ###### about it!

And for those of you that want to label me as a leftist or whatever... Please watch the movie "Last of the Mohicans" and pay really close attention to the part where the British officer is scolding Nathaniel "You call yourself a patriot, and a loyal subject to the crown?" His answer is classic, and sums up my feelings on just about anything political.... "I don't call myself subject to much at all."

Where are the posts 'defending' Zarqawi. The argument is bigger than that. Of course... if you'd read through the thread you would know that.

Well, you did say:

You're right. I am indeed a Hillary loving leftist. I hate America, I love terrorists. Bin Laden is on my christmas card list and I'd vote for Saddam Hussein.

I'm glad someone finally understands me

Caught you!!!!

Yep - that's me dead to rights ;)

Seriously though... its a shame so many folks want to obscure the issue under discussion by banging on

about anti-americanism. Not what its about at all.

Amen!

Oh, and kudos to Slim for the above post.

These same people who have spent hours on end here defending Zarqawi...
Who, exactly, would that be? Name one (and back up your freaken claim) or zip it!
Brother Reinhard, have you noticed all the "newbies" around here lately? What's up with that... just come here to talk ####### and stick their noses into something that doesn't concern them? Maybe their normal blog sites are too lame, or they got booted off for being so damn ignorant!!!

I noticed that incanada multiplied. I said so in this thread as well. In response, she sent me an infantile PM off her new identity, too. I blocked that new identity 'cause I don't care to concern myself with that kind of a ridiculous individual. ;)

Brother "bald headed, red faced" roi_aggie this topic concerns me and I have evey right to "stick my nose" in it as you do.

Brother Ehtiopian lover Reinhard you are one sorry detective and to presume I am "incanada". I have no association with Canada at all.

You know them Bushies and them wrap-myself-(especially my eyes)-in-a-flag types can't (or, at least refuse to) argue on merits. Never have, never will. You ask a question, articulate a critical thought (the horror) and all they can and ever will do is slap the anti-American label on you. All it really does is expose them for the anti-Americans they are. ;)

Cheers!

This is rather similar to that Rush Limbaugh story that approvemedammit posted last the other week. The core issue in the article was jettisoned entirely in favor of the headline and lead-in copy that the woman was blaming the government for her having to have an abortion because she couldn't get the morning after pill within the 72 hour window. So never mind the issues a particular story raises, lets attack the people asking the questions rather than dealing with the arguments raised.

At this point - people are throwing in their 2cents worth without actually reading the thread in its entirety and without addressing the arguments raised. tw@ts.

Someone needs to thump her round the head with the bible she cares so passionately about. She's about as far far from a 'model' christian as Zarqawi was a paragon of muslim virtue. Clearly some issues there...

Fishdude with size of your small fish brain you assume I carry a bible and portray myself as a "model" Christian. Not once have I spoke of Chrisitianity and I may be an atheist.

Incanada - I think you just gave yourself away there. Suggest you read your post again. Caught yourself in a bit of a lie (or to coin a euphemism, a "truth-deficit") there I think...

Got to wonder what she has to gain by cloning herself. Maybe she's lonely - which given the manner in which she often relates to others probably isn't too far from the truth.

Clearly there's something to be said for interpersonal skills.

and what precisely makes you think she cloned herself?

Her written mannerisms, the tone of her posts, the way in which she personally attacks people rather than discuss the issue in question. But most obviously the similarity of this username to approvementdammit, which everyone knows is incanada.

Just wanted to say that I, once again, admire the intelligent debate going on here(among SOME of the posters!) ;) I'll be the first to admit, I don't know nearly enough about any of it to get involved myself, but I'm reading...and learning! Slim, also wanted to say that it's admirable that you stay on track and ignore the continued personal attacks (instead of the person focusing on the issue at hand) good on ya...something I have trouble with myself, but another thing to learn from!:) M.
