The issues between Israel and Palestine will not be resolved in our lifetime. 200+ people were killed in Palestine and it barely made headline news.

The Mumbai attacks on the other hand, gobbled up 3-5 days of Prime Time News. Why is that?

The whole thing is about land, the religious angle is just the side show.

We are more vested in India than we are in Gaza. But the problems between Israel and the Palestinians has been going on for decades, its not really new or news.

The bold type captures my point exactly. To address the rest, the United States is more deeply vested with Israel than India. Who gets more military training, arms, planes; and intelligence cooperation from the US?

Answer: Israel.

Agreed, some of this goes to India, but on a much smaller scale.

My perspective on this is different, but the facts remain clear.

I meant economically. US companies have more investments in India than Israel. But militarily you are correct.

It's all good bro. Either way, these situations need resolution. I hope the new Prez and his admin can make progress here. I have held this hope for many years now......And I am not old yet.

As someone who has lived in Israel... most Israelis are willing to do almost anything for peace... it is a culture of hate and a political organization based on destruction (Hamas) which is ruining and suffocating Palestinian society

As long its on their terms right?

Israel has agreed to stop building new settlements, but has it? Not a chance.

Why is what we say or do so important, are we the self appointed police department of the world? We are just a tiny less than 5% of the world's population. What do we have a United Nations for? It's suppose to be their job to keep peace in the world, or let the Vikings handle this one or the Portuguese, even the Romans, they use to be the most powerful in the world. Or give the Japanese a chance, can give them Nintendo's, so they can play their war games on a TV without hurting anyone. Even the Canadians or Peru can handle this one. But why always us? We have given up a great deal of our freedom, and yes freedom is having bucks plus our young men and women for peace in the world, always some jerk someplace trying to make problems, and the jerks never get the blunt of the retaliation, always the hard working innocent have to make this sacrifices, especially those who have parents not rich enough to send them to college.

It's always us getting involved, sick of it, we have our own problems to deal with, who in the hell is helping us? Nobody.

A couple well placed nukes would take care of things quite quickly. An overnight success.

Where was all that tough talk during Vietnam, Marc? Or were you too busy getting loaded to notice?

If the Soviets did try to take over the entire world, would have gone broke that much quicker, my cousin got killed in that war, brother-in-law lived a painful life with agent orange, and for what? Seeing stuff all over in stores today, Made in Viet Nam. Before that is made in Korea, Japan, or Germany. Korea took our ship building industry and Japan owns us. What did our guys die for?

Remember?

Following the dropping of the atomic bomb, U.S. Army Air Force bombers dropped

leaflets over the major cities of Japan. The message was plain and to the point:

TO THE JAPANESE PEOPLE:

America asks that you take immediate heed of what we say on this leaflet. We are in possession of the most destructive explosive ever devised by man. A single one of our newly developed atomic bombs is actually the equivalent in explosive power to what 2000 of our giant B-29s can carry on a single mission. This awful fact is one for you to ponder and we solemnly assure you it is grimly accurate. We have just begun to use this weapon against your homeland. If you still have any doubt, make inquiry as to what happened to Hiroshima when just one atomic bomb fell on that city. Before using this bomb to destroy every resource of the military by which they are prolonging this useless war, we ask that you now petition the Emperor to end the war. Our president has outlined for you the thirteen consequences of an honorable surrender. We urge that you accept these consequences and begin the work of building a new, better and peace-loving Japan. You should take steps now to cease military resistance. Otherwise, we shall resolutely employ this bomb and all our other superior weapons to promptly and forcefully end the war.

The Japanese Government once again ignored the message.

On August 9, 1945, the second atomic bomb, "Fat Man" was dropped over Nagasaki by "Bocks Car."

All but defeated and facing annihilation, the Japanese government

finally agreed to unconditional surrender on August 15, 1945.

The day will forever be known as V-J DAY.

VICTORY OVER JAPAN

Very harsh but very effective! I know some stomachs cant take it.

Palestinian death tolls make headline news about as much as African genocides do.

Personally I think the answer is much simpler. The Mumbai attacks were unprecendented and unexpected (plus the attackers were targetting westerners). The Israelis and Palestinians going at it is simply business as usual. There tends to be more "shock value" in massacres that take place in places where you don't expect them.

Actually the military leaders of Japan ignored our atomic bombs, shortly after we dropped them, the Soviets declared war against Japan, that is when they decided to surrender to the USA. They sure didn't want that nut, Stalin invading their country.

USA should have followed General Patton's advice and invaded and got rid of Stalin, would have prevented a 40 year cold war that cost us a small fortune.

War has always been nonproductive, our government had no money to pull us out of the great depression, but somehow had plenty of money for WW II, everybody was put back to work, only to be followed by a major recession after the war ended.
