Interview Language

Hi, my Fiance's Interview is in January in Mumbai, India. She speaks English but not as fluent as she does Hindi or Gujarati. Will it be tougher for her to have the Visa Approved if she chooses not to have the Interview in English?

All they look for is that you share a common language. If you can prove that you can speak Hindi or Gurajati then there will be no problem. You will need to have emails or some kind of communication proving that.

My husband did not speak English very well at the time of his interview. He had his interview in French since it was our means of communication. He passed with flying colors.

The original poster asked "Will it be tougher for her to have the Visa approved if she chooses not to have the Interview in English?" If my perception is correct -- that the original poster is asking whether the interview would be conducted in English -- then the answer above does not really address itself to the question.

The fluency of communication in the interview -- and the concomitant risk of misunderstandings and wrong answers -- depends on the foreign-language abilities of both the interviewee and the consular officer who is conducting the interview. It would be good for the original poster to hear from people who have actually interviewed at Mumbai and who have faced the language situation, to see whether most of the consuls speak either of the Indian languages mentioned. If no such person responds here, perhaps the question can be posted (or searched) in the Regional forum for India.
