No they can't. A non-citizen, temp visitor on a visa could get a driver's license and social security card. The point is not for id, but to show citizenship or permanent residence in the US. If US born, then a US birth certificate or US passport. If not US born, then naturalization certificate or something to show their permanent immigration status.

Forgot to say...if you look at item #1 on the I-134 where they are asking about where the sponsor was born. Then it goes on asking for more info if the person was not born in the US. (Question 1, a-e) The extra evidence supports whatever the co-sponsor answers to that section. London may not be as strict with the I-134 proofs. The AOS affidavit is stricter and I'm sure they ask for those things so that's why we normally tell people to get them for the I-134 too. The instructions don't mention it, so maybe just signing and swearing that everything is true will be enough.

I am so sorry to read what happen to PB&JAM. I think it is worth getting a lawyer so that he will sort out something for you guys. I had a similar situation, were I was caution for common assault two yes ago. So from the beginning of our process we got a lawyer. He was very helpfully, and thank God I was approved.

Take heart, all will go well with you as well.

Just so there is no confusion for those-who-come-after, you do not have to wait for the physical packet 3. Sometimes it never arrives!

Do as you feel comfortable, of course, but it's not necessary to have the actual paper in hand. Also, as far as I know, there is no medical questionnaire in the (London) packet 3. This may be true for other embassies, but not ours.

DOS (Packet 3 sent to beneficiary, packet 3 received, interview date is...) is a great resource, as is NVC (LND number, date sent to embassy).

The only thing you need for your medical is the LND number, the only thing you need to send in packet 3, is confirmation that your information has arrived at London.

Aww, thanks for the well wishes, Chris and Julie and Moira! Fortunately, my Honey is as cool as a cucumber, while I'm the one bouncing off the walls here in SoCal! It's our usual dynamic - he's like the Camie Whisperer, that guy.
