Totally amazed at the number of people in the liquor store this morning, they had to have two cashiers working.

Funny people couldn't get to work because of the snow but made it to the liquor store.

C.'s income is off compared to last year, and work in the U.S. has dried up until March, so he's working periodically in Canada (and getting paid in Canadian, so his paychecks are 20% less since their dollar crashed.) The academic job market is crashing just as I'm finishing my doctorate, and while I'll probably land somewhere just fine, it's definitely tighter than it was a year ago.

Since we fortunately have been able to live within our means, we're feeling it, but it's just meant cutting back on some discretionary spending.

It just seems that my dollar doesn't go as far these days.

Personally, we're keeping our heads above water, it's just that i HATE my job, and i can't quit it because of the economic situation in the city. A few years ago if i were in this position, i would have just quit and found a new gig.

Also, i'm not getting much freelance employment these days...

Well I certainly notice my dollar doesn't go as far as it once did either but comparing it to last year I'd say I'm about the same as where I was except I'm buying my food at the store more and cooking at home to save money. Not eating out a lot these days and making alternatives to what I crave when I eat out. I haven't been able to buy Christmas present for a couple of years cos I'm a student but I do get the Christmas cards out.

Thx. I've never heard of it. We have Rite aid, and Albertsons, and Safeway, and Walgreens. Never seen a CVS. I'll have to keep an eye open.
