Are you guys saying that anyone who has ever touched drugs in their entire life should say it?

Everyone has their own convictions...

Anita I have been thinking about you and hope you are feeling stronger (F)

Do they ask in the medical examination if you have done drugs or do they just do a urine test or what? Which form asks if you have done drugs?

I think its on one of the forms you send fill out and send back to the consulate, you know where there are a million questions followed yes/no boxes... not sure but i think thats it.

Yes I am also interested to know this. Has anyone ever had a hair test performed in a medical?

I agree with some other posts here, and unless I have missed somethıng somewhere, if this question was just asked in regards to something that was done 25 years ago....with no record of it ever being done (I do not believe I saw anywhere that there was an arrest or some official account of this), it shouldn not have been brought up.

What is the point of doing so, especially when you consider the harmful ramifications of it and to their spouse?

Like our own government is totally 100% honest with us all the time?

Suuuuuurrrrrre........ :innocent:

Based on the information given, as much as honesty is usually the best policy, if this were done 25 years ago.....with no record of it.......it is well past the time where I believe it has any bearing on this case, and should not have been brought up. As much as I sympathize with what she is going through, to just say ``it`s always best to be honest`` is really not being practical.

If there was a criminal record of it, or it was documented, by all means ...do NOT lie. But if not, then I agree with the rest of those saying that she shouldnt have mentioned it.

In either case, like all the others here......I wish her well, and hope things turn out okay.

Form DS156 asks this question: Have you ever been afflicted with a communicable disease of public health significance or a dangerous physical or mental disorder, or ever been a drug abuser or addict?

There is no qualification made. So, have I ever been an addict - the answer to that is yes I have. It may take a while longer for me to get the visa... but I can hold my head high, knowing that I have not compromised on that which I value; that I have remained true to myself.

My Gypsy and my future mum-in-law are standing by me... as are my dad and his fmaily. My brother and mother despite thinking I am stupid are standing by me too.

I am not afraid of what the future holds, Paul and I will be together of this I am sure.

Yes I am feeling better today... more together and more resolute than ever before.

I love you all (F)

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

I commend you for over coming your drug problem . I would think the thing to do now is start to collect your information to prove that you are no longer on drugs anymore. Maybe if you went to rehab or treatment 25 years you could get your medical records. Also proof that are maintaining a normal life drug free. Like if you have a job you could get your attentdance record from work. Or if you go to any kind of program that keeps you drug free like n/a or a/a. Maybe even if you attend weekly meetings at church or anything like that , that helps prove to them that you are drug free. Just a thought. I know how you feel my fiance also got a 221 g last week. But its not the end of the world (at least not yet).

I think Nita has done the right thing FOR HER - never mind if anyone else would or would not have one it - thats for THEIR conscience; she lives by her honesty and integrity - and is rightfully proud of her achievements in beating such an insidious addiction.

Just for a moment consider that she had withheld this info - but the medical exam revealed she had some damage to her body which was 'indicative of prolonged, although not recent, drug use' and this went on the report sent to the Embassy.

What possible explanation could she give to account for that, that wouldn't be another lie?

If someone else chooses to go that route, then that's between them and THEIR conscience. Its got nothing to do with the fact that 'Nita needs support right now.

*hugs* girlie

Melo... so happy to hear that you are in a better frame of mind today. I have to agree with JB... when you lay your head down at night and can rest peacefully, knowing you have done your very best for that day... you only have to answer for YOUR actions... and I admire you for sticking to your ethics.

Also, I don't really think that anyone here is judging you... everyone has different opinions. Keep your chin up, and carry on! I'm still praying for you and your Gypsy... I too believe that you will be together soon!

*hugs*

Thanks all of you. I can tell you that I do not feel judged by you. Some might question my sanity or lack of the same  but none of you have been judgemental or nasty. I thank you so much for that.

I am feeling better today. I am putting all the paperwork I require together. I heard from the Metropolitan police today; tomorrow will be sending the form they require along with the fees to them... am working on what to say in the letter addressing my drug abuse history.

I know that I have done the right thing for me... certainly I am at peace with what I have done.

Love you all much (L)

I am so glad to see you in a much brighter mood today Anita! You have loads of support from here and your family  You have to do what you are comfortable with.....I have had to make a choice also on my application to be truthful or not mention something, but I know I would be lying and I would worry about it all the time that it would come back and bite me in my a$$ one day! At least dealing with something right from the start, even if it causes delays, can be then put behind me once and for all....

Keep positive Anita!!! (F)(F)
