I could never tick that box claiming never done drugs etc knowing it to be a lie. They do not ask if you have a conviction... they ask if you have ever been a drug abuser... and I have. Further I will live the rest of my life with Paul in fear of deportation coz I told a lie.

Very noble. I mean it. But where there was no paper trail you have now created one that will follow you for the rest of your life.

A few months of worrying while she waits for the waiver is better than a lifetime of looking over her shoulder. It sounds really good to me, Melo, the fact that he explained to you that telling the truth was what saved you is EXCELLENT - I feel terrible for what you're going through now but i'm 100% positive for your future. Best of luck with wait. You've obviously overcome a lot more than this. You took on a addiction and beat it, you can do this with both hands tied behind your back. Keep us informed.

:star: prayers with you, Joey

If there is NOTHING linking you to past activities why create one? That's my point. We all have done stupid things (most at least).

The next time you roll through a stop sign or speed will you turn yourself in to the nearest police officer? Yeah, that's what I thought..

Please, that's not even close to what this is. She didn't just wander up to someone in the street and say I've taken drugs in the past. Like she said, she was looking at an official US document that was asking her to check, have you taken drugs/haven't you. It's an OFFICIAL document, you're basically saying if it were you you'd sign on the dotted line knowing you'd lied above... She did the right thing.

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

I'm just giving you my opinion. I have held many governmnt clearances in the past. And been the subject of many in-depth background checks. I'm just talking from experience. Do what you want... but hopefully one person learns from this thread.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I agree. It's good to let people know what the consequences are of telling the truth in this situation. They can make their own decision about it accordingly.

I hope everything is resolved quickly, Anita.

I am very sorry to hear of your setback.... I know it's heartbreaking.

But you are getting some good advice here. It's not an outright denial; you DO have the chance to overcome this.

Wishing you all the best.... hang in there. Insha'allah you can resolve the situation soon.

Aw Melo.....I was watching for your post and I hate to read this.

I know you are proud of how you have turned your life around, and you should make that your focus in the documents you produce for them. Not everybody has squeaky-clean track records. I'm sure that this is just a curve in the straight path your life has been on.

My heart is breaking for Anita today. I have known her since before she joined this forum and have had some lovely conversations with her. I know how much she and Paul deserve to be happy together. She has cheered me up when I have been down... leant a shoulder for me to cry on as tom and I went through this incredibly stressful process.

I have been researching this 221 (g) and not found much. I certainly hope this will just be another part of the process... that they will get whatever information will satisfy them and that the visa will be granted.

{{{{ Anita }}}} hang in there... find out what this next step involves.

Ok, I see this has been brought up.

Melo, this is a lie you should have prepared yourself to tell. And you know the US government doesn't go around deporting people. Let me give you an example. You know how big the Communist Party is in certain parts of India, right? Do you really believe all the visa applicants from Bengal and Kerala who claim they have never been members of the Communist Party are telling the truth? Many (I'd guess 20%) are not. The US govt doesn't really care. They ask because they're supposed to you give the answer they want to hear, and everyone lives happily ever after.

That 221g can reall shake you up, can't it? It did us too, but as others have said it's just an official way of them requesting more information. The wording is very intimidating, but basically they are just saying they can't make their decision on your visa without more information. This is just something they have to do based on the information you gave them. It does not mean they are going to refuse you.

I know it's so blood hard to be put under such intense scrutinity and judgement by someone you can't even directly look at. It undermines you to your core. Don't let it shake you. When your emotions have calmed get your information together and get your ducks all in a very tidy row and you should be just fine.

I'll be saying a prayer for you...

Has everyone forgotten about Melissa and Javier? All that poor guy did was put some in his mouth when he was a kid and he has a 3 year ban. This stuff is serious and advising people to tell the truth here is doing them a disservice.

That's not quite right. In Javier's case, it happened, I believe, just a day or two before the medical.

Who am I thinking of then? In someones case it was just once when they were a kid.
