My brother and mother think I am insane to have told the truth... but I have never resorted to lying to keep myself out of trouble and am not going to start now. I am going to write to my friend whose husband used to be the deputy chief of mission here in new delhi and ask if she can help me with a letter or something... I am still crying my eyes out... but I refuse to be deceitful and lie no matter what the consequences.

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

oh shute.....only just seeing this thread :( I am almost at a loss for words over this. The others are right though, this is only temporary.....supply what they are asking for. The one positive thing I can see from what I understand of what you have said....is, that they could of denied and asked you to file a waiver, god knows how long that would of taken, or they could of even flat out denied you, which they didnt do either or. What they have done is given you a 221 (g) TEMPORARY denial (big emphasis on temporary) and asked you to supply additional information on what was contained within your paperwork. Hang in there Anita.......yes this is a bump that you could of done without but you CAN overcome this. *HUGS* You are in my thoughts my friend.

The man did say to me that because of my honesty they did not deny me the visa. He said otherwise they would have permanently banned me from the USA.

And that is a good sign. I know this isn't what you wanted, sweetie, but as the others have said - its not something you can't overcome. The waivers forum has a LOT of good information from people who have been there, done that. You can do it too.

Hang in there, we are all here for you. (F)

I could never tick that box claiming never done drugs etc knowing it to be a lie. They do not ask if you have a conviction... they ask if you have ever been a drug abuser... and I have. Further I will live the rest of my life with Paul in fear of deportation coz I told a lie.

Very noble. I mean it. But where there was no paper trail you have now created one that will follow you for the rest of your life.

Exactly!

You aren't denied yet—hell, you haven't even been asked to file a waiver! that's awesome! :) A waiver could add several more months onto your wait time. I agree with everyone else who has advised that you and Paul work doubletime to gather some evidence of good conduct on your part, and then get it back to the consulate as fast as you can.

Surely everyone here is rooting for you both. (F)

A few months of worrying while she waits for the waiver is better than a lifetime of looking over her shoulder. It sounds really good to me, Melo, the fact that he explained to you that telling the truth was what saved you is EXCELLENT - I feel terrible for what you're going through now but i'm 100% positive for your future. Best of luck with wait. You've obviously overcome a lot more than this. You took on a addiction and beat it, you can do this with both hands tied behind your back. Keep us informed.

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

If there is NOTHING linking you to past activities why create one? That's my point. We all have done stupid things (most at least).

The next time you roll through a stop sign or speed will you turn yourself in to the nearest police officer? Yeah, that's what I thought..

Yeah so I go this for the so called criminal activity I engaged in by using drugs - have ben off it more than 25 years... but that of course does not count... I feel shattered... I can't stop crying. I have to provide them with detailed info about my drug use amongst other things.

I am so sorry! What happened? What options did they give you???

Whatever the case, hang in there until resolution comes.
