A 109-year-old woman, who claimed that never having sex was the secret to her long life, died last week in Norway, Agence France-Presse reported Tuesday.

Gunda Harangen, believed to be Norway's oldest woman, died Nov. 25, her nephew told the newspaper Laagendalsposten in southeastern Norway.

Harangen was born Dec. 28, 1898 and was the oldest of seven children.

In a 2006 interview, she attributed her longevity to being a life-long virgin and drinking one glass of cognac every day.

I know she believed in what she did (i.e. being a virgin), but I find it a little sad that she never found someone. I know love and sex can be separate entities, but honestly... how many men would willingly be part of a relationship where sex never occurred? I can't imagine most women would do that, either.

There are people, men and women, who are truly asexual, as in, no interest in sex period. She may have have been one of those people. I can't figure out some days if they are really weird or really smart. Sex, in any context, is occasionally far more trouble then it is worth. I mean, just turn on Maury one day. ;)

if she'd had more cognac per day she might not have been a virgin.

Oh I remember her. RIP. (F)

She said she didn't see what the big deal about sex was. I guess it would be like me and crack. I don't see what the big deal is.

So what that she wasn't interested in sex?

If she led a happy life, good for her.
