Did anyone fly to their SO's country and come back together on same flight?

Why aren't airline tickets going down after gas has dropped dramatically in the last few weeks? Augh! -_-

Diana

It's because of the holidays.I'm glad I bought my ticket last month.

It might also have to do with using jet fuel as opposed to typical gasoline designed for cars. I can't imagine they're equally priced.

To answer the OP's question, yes my wife and I have done that. I visited her and then we both flew back to my home state of Texas. It was only a vacation together, since we hadn't completed the immigration part yet. So while it wasn't a permanent move, it was a flight we both took from Canada, which later arrived in Texas.

Namaste Bhaini,

We did this. I bought a RT for me here and made reservations for S&A on my return flight (through a travel agent here), but we actually bought their tickets in KTM through a different travel agent there. Cheaper, and I'm pretty sure we bought one way tickets for them. It took a little finagling (sp?), but it worked out fine and it was fun (and comforting for all of us, I think) to be together through the whole experience.

So exciting that the time is drawing near for you and Govinda!

And I've been following some of your posts about your eyes. We will be praying for you.

hugs,

Maya-didi

PS For the poster who asked about POE, we went through JFK as well, and I just went through the non-USC line. They let us stay together. And the place was practically deserted when we were there.

Thanks Maya-didi and everyone who made suggestions - nice to hear about everybody's experiences. :)

I think I will do like what you did. I will probably be buying our tickets through Tashi Sherpa(the travel agent I recommended before - I think he has tons of connections in KTM and I have bought tickets from him twice so I think he would hook me up - I know he has connections with trekking agencies. :D How much time elapsed from the time you made your reservations and the time you paid for the tickets in KTM? I am just wondering if that would work for us since I am planning on buying the tickets as early as possible so we are not paying over $3K p/p(in February, assuming he gets the visa then) and won't be arriving in KTM until the end of May???? I don't think they would hold the reservations that long without payment but maybe Tashi could help me out...

I flew to Brazil on Friday, and flew back with her on Monday.

Booked through the airline, not a travel agent, had seats together all the way,

Vitoria to Rio to Sau Paulo to Houston to Atlanta to Louisville

My flight was booked 2 months aftere hers, she was worried to travel alone so I booked my ticket to match hers

The airlines will work with you if you are booking directly with them, travel agents could care less.

As soon as my husband has visa in hand my plan is to buy a ticket for me to fly over there around Memorial Day and his ticket to come here with me around July 4th - I am wondering who has done this and if it was any more expensive than buying two tickets with the same originating flight - hope this makes sense. Also, did you find any difficulty buying your SO's ticket in the US? I will be buying from a travel agent since I have always found cheaper tickets to Nepal that way rather than online.

Pattu,

I've got no advice for your questions, I just wanted to say I'm happy for you and your Govi to finally be able to see an end to the waiting.

Best of everything in these final months apart.

Take care...

Frances :luv:

Thanks so much Frances - it's going to be tough but hopefully G will ace his interview - January might be a very stressful month since I could have my eye surgery and Govi's interview around the same time. Hopefully we will both get through this time without going nuts - me with a clear, cataract-free eye and Govi with a fresh CR-1 visa....

I was wondering does anyone know what happens at the POE? Yes

I am planning on flying to Brazil for my spouse's interview and then flying to the US together. I know that there is a line for US residents and another line for visitors. Does this mean that my spouse and I have to wait in separate lines? Not necessarily but depends on the POE... ask the crowd control officer... they may direct you to stay together in the USC line. The USC can always downgrade to the visitor line.

I also heard that there is an interview for the beneficiary at the POE...is this true? It is called secondary inspection, primarily paper work processing... they may ask questions but it is not really an interview

YMMV

We came back together on July 2nd around the same time you're planning. :) I bought the tickets here before I went and used vayama.com which is considered an online travel agent. I had to buy them separately. So I bought one RT for me and then bought a one way for him and asked that we be seated together. It was considered two different transactions, if you understand what I mean. We travelled together and I loved it. Only thing that I didn't fully understand. WHen we came into JFK, I went with him and waited in the non citizen line through customs/immigration. Some people were allowed to go through the citizen line if they were travelling with a citizen. I don't know what the rules are and maybe it just depends on the day of the week or how crowded customs/immigration is at the time, but obviously the citizen line moves MUCH faster!

We did the exact same thing in August. No issues at all.

Does it cost more to buy tickets directly from the airline?

I did. I bought round trip for me and a matching one way for him. Had to call the airlines to do it; but no issues at all with the ticket at departure or POE.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Your wifes K-1 visa classes her as a resident, she goes throught the resident line with you.

Just came back from Brazil with my lady three weeks ago, she goes through the line with you.

We came in throught Houston from Sau Paulo.

They will escort you and her from the first passport check to the waiting room. you will not be allowed to stay in this room,

tell her this, mine lady was upset when they had me leave and wait outside, she did not undertand that they would not let me return to her.

Her interview lasted about 2 minutes, the lady, speaking in Spanish just told her we had 90 days to get married and then stamped her

passport, entered her "A" number and it was done.

She goes through the resident line even if she is alone.

I was wondering does anyone know what happens at the POE? I am planning on flying to Brazil for my spouse's interview and then flying to the US together. It depends. For me, my round trip ticket was cheaper directly from Delta. My husband's one-way ticket was cheaper on vayama.com. Then I just picked the seats on Delta.com using our confirmation numbers.
