Seems that in this case 'honesty was the best policy' - after all, he can sleep at night :)

$182,000 would have bought a lot of sleeping pills.

And a nice vacation, a great car...etc etc. :P

Anything to help him sleep at night :P

Every little helps!

How many here would have kept the money and not told the home owner?

I thought "finders keepers"?

My sentiments exactly.

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f
July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well, they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit, nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !

June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again, still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm
July 19,2010-VISA IN MANUELITO'S HAND at 3:15pm!

I would most likely tell the owner about the money... but this is the kind of thing you don't know until you find yourself in that position... I wouldn't be totally surprised to find myself taking the money too.

What I know for certain, had I reported it to the owner and they offered 10%, I'd take the 10%, that's 10% more than I had before.

For those who would definitely take the money, the age of the money itself presents some potential problems, and also due to the age the money is worth more than it's face value... how would you deal with that... this becomes almost a money laundering type of an issue when you suddenly have a pile of very old money, at some point someone's going to want to know exactly how you came into possession of that money... it seems simple enough to make up a simple lie about where it came from... but when the FBI shows up and starts asking you very specific questions and suddenly "Gee, I found it in the attic of my... 30 year old house..." falls apart pretty quickly.

I have a hard time believing that 60,000 was stolen from a shoe box in her closet, especially if the entire house wasn't ransacked and looted in the process.

Or, how many would have "skimmed" a fair percentage of the find first? And then told the owner...
