So it turns out that Palin not knowing Africa was a continent is an elaborate hoax by this guy! ---------------------------------->

the bad thing is the haters won't care.

I have to agree there. I doubt very much if any of those at the front of this thread will even acknowledge that they fell for this hoax, hook, line and sinker.

It does, however, serve as notice to both parties that this type of thing will be a part of politics from now on and they had both better be on top of the information technology out there to prevent this sort of disinformation getting a foothold. And maybe the media will do their homework before taking this sort of thing at face value next time around.

Then again, pigs might fly.

What's not to acknowledge? It's obvious we fell for it.

Frankly, when a media outlet I consider credible reports something, I believe it. When it turns out they were wrong, repeatedly, over time, I stop considering them credible.

When disinformation such as this elaborate hoax get into the main stream media and start affecting the way we live then I get concerned. MSNBC isn't the first to face this kind of problem in the media world. CNN was also affected when they posted disinformation on their website that affected the stock market. There are more examples of this happening sooner. I think part of the pressure is who is first in the news so that they capture audiences.

Remember when Dan Rather had to leave CBS for his willingness to air forgeries smearing GWB?

Yes and he got choked up about it on national television when he issued his apology. Now he is reporting in webisodes for a website: HDnet http://www.hd.net/

I think the bigger issue is that no one questioned it. Which means something like was probably not that out of character for Palin.

True. Palin haters have come to define narrow-mindedness in this past election.

Africa is where the little baby Jesus was born, so I am a bit disappointed if this is true.

She's still a pinhead.

Israel is in Africa?

I previously posted the response from Sarah Palin that I posted in this thread in the other "Palin didn't know Africa was a continent" topic , and you could hear the crickets chirping...suddenly the topic was no longer interesting and dropped off the first page.

Interesting generality, Pooky. But while the "front of the thread" may have fallen for it, if you actually read the thread you'll also note most posters were not ridiculing Palin as much as they were laying blame at the foot of the people who vetted her - a valid point when you consider her other numerous, well document foibles.
