Hello All,

I am dating a guy from Pakistani who is living and working (as a chef) in Florence Italy. He has the "Passaggio di Soggiorno" card which basically translates to Permission to stay, but he is not a citizen. I dont even know where to start in terms of trying to get him here. What forms do we need? What information does he need to provide? Any help would be great.

He would apply for a B2 visa through the US Embassy in Rome. Check their website. I expect his chances are slim and none though.

What if I sponsored him to come her for a couple of months or however long?

For B1/B2 visa:

BNL receipt of payment of the non-refundable Machine Readable Visa application fee.

The completed visa application form DS-156 and DS-157 (when applicable).

A passport valid for travel to the United States. If more than one person is included in the passport, each individual desiring a visa must make a separate application;

One passport size photo for each visa applicant, including infants (see the "Photo Requirements" webpage).

Any further documentation that demonstrates social, economic, and family ties to Italy and purpose of trip (such documents might include: Permesso di soggiorno in original form for non-Italian citizens, letter of employment, the last pay slip or Form 101, INPS, or Tax Form, marriage certificate for non-Italians married to an Italian citizen, bank statement demonstrating sufficient funds.)

He will need to show that he has no intent of staying in the US with strong ties to either Italy or Pakastan. This would be a lease, employment, family (esp a wife or child) etc. It's up to the discretion of the officer at the embassy though. Some nationalities are easier to get a B2 for than others. Pakastani's are not in the easy group. Better to go visit him in Italy (and buy some shoes :whistle: ) and when you are ready to file either a K1 to bring him here as your fiance OR marry him anywhere you want (and can both get to) and then file either a K3 or CR-1. Make sure to keep evidence of this trip for future filing.

It doesn't hurt to try for the visitor's visa. . .though a steady girlfrienc in the U.S. actually might make it more difficult to visit. . they might think he is planning on staying and getting married, which is Misrepresentation and is illegal. If he can prove ties and intent to return to Italy or Pakistan, he has a chance. They are right that it is difficult, but not completely impossible. If he does come, just make sure he doesn't overstay, it would make it impossible to visit later and difficult to get a permanent visa later.

Good call EMT. I forgot to say that if his visitor's visa petition is turned down, it won't affect his K1 or K3.

I'm with pushbrk. voting on the none side of slim to none - advise the OP to fly to italy, do some shopping, and visit the BF. BUT....by following the above posted requirements and paying the US consulate $129 he can get officially rejected and thanked by the obamacrats for his support of the US economy

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.. No, thankfully his name is not Obama haha. I am actually going to visit him in December for about 20 days. We are definitely not ready to get married but we love eachother and the relationship is going in that direction. I know he can show that he has ties to Italy, he has been living there for almost 9 years and has a job, pays rent, etc. I know it would be easier to just marry him since it is almost impossible to get a pakistani national a visa, but I'm trying to do this the right way, and not just rush into things. I was hoping the passaggio di soggiorno would help but i guess not.
