It always seems to happen with concession speeches! People seem more human and humble, and more likeable all of the sudden. I was proud of McCain at that moment. I couldn't help feeling a little sad for him too since this was his last chance, age wise.

I can't help but wonder if there isn't a tad bit of relief as well at those moments, for any candidate who has to make one of those speeches...especially for as high an office as the POTUS.

I said the same thing to my hubby while listening to it -- where was THAT McCain during this election?

He'd have done a lot better had he been allowed to be himself. I really do think campaigning changed him. It would change anyone. Heck, Obama looks like he's aged 10 years.

He'll look worse once he leaves office - all that stress and pressure does a number on the body. Even Golf Course George isn't immune.

truly...

McCain was absolutely gracious in defeat and pledged to support the new president because that is in the best intersts of America. While I am sure he will only support that which he deems to be right (which is just as it should be) his voice should ensure that most McCain supporters will be positive in defeat. That is a good thing, and hopefully will set the tone for how things will move forward from now. No one should slandered for their choice of candidate. However, if people continue to slander those that did vote for Obama, then I think there will be a certain amount of bickering towards those people.

I thought McCain's concession speech was very good for moving forward, and I support everyone working together. I don't support the bitterness by those who lost, and think it only hinders things. After seeing bitterness from the other side for so many years, it became very unappealing to me and behavior I would not want to mirror. So if I expect others to act gracious, then I have to act gracious too.

McCain gave a great classy speech. THAT is the McCain I remember from a few years ago.

Likely the same with Hillary C too... Not for Sarah Palin of course - but I doubt she'll be much more than a footnote in the political landscape from now on.

And I intend to continue my freedom of speech. I look forward to 4 years of "I told you so" before he ends his first and only term.

it will be fun to do the bashing rather than the defending of the president for a change.

I'm really surprised Charles, as someone who has served his country that you would also be on the side of hoping for failure.

my military service has nothing to do with this nor is what i said stating anything about hoping for failure.

i'm not setting the bar too high like some as i'm expecting a less than stellar performance.

Laugh all you want. The last laugh will be mine.

And the last laugh will be ours when you fill out your tax returns next year! Bwahahahahaha!

It is time for the working man and women, if you are in the top 5% than your time is done, your greed and excess is a memory, we have taken it up the back end side for many years, watching the very few wealthy make billions off our back, hope they had a good ride, cause baby we have it now.

yeah, watch them leave the country with their money.

Sore loser!

don't look at me, i don't have enough money to leave with :P

and you just confirmed what vw has been saying all along about higher taxes btw.

Only for the higher earners, Charles, and that hasn't been something that Obama has hidden away. Incidentally, I know jack squat about politics, so I don't think I confirm anything that VW says. ;)

given what vw says, she's probably in that soon to be taxed higher bracket.

And therein lies her main problem with President-Elect Obama.

is that not a valid concern?

For most of us, no. Look at it this way... there was rampant greed on Wall Street, CEO's making millions while stocks plummet, oil companies making record profits, etc. McCain's answer to to give a TAX BREAK to these individuals & he used the whole Joe the Plumber angle as a smoke screen. Sure there will be a handful of small businesses paying higher taxes under Obama's plan & he needs to rethink that, but the bottom line is that his tax plans benefit the middle class while McCain's plan benefitted the rich as well.

As for VW with all due respect she has shown a strong bias against anyone with ideas different than her own, so she's probably not the best poster child for the conservative viewpoint.

That's a very pessimistic view. Bush has been one of the worst Presidents in history, but his approval numbers were pretty high in the beginning of his presidency. My point is that most Americans gave him the benefit of the doubt until he screwed this country up. I think the right wingers owe Obama the same courtesy... give the guy a chance before you judge him.

i'm a pessimist. and no, i don't think most americans gave him the benefit of the doubt at all. i'd heard complaints about bush all the way back to 02 and 03.

Indeed. But no one wants to be wrong and I guess if by some chance Obama does any good for this country, some people will find that a very bitter pill to swallow.

Nobody is saying that VW or anyone else should suppress their views, I am just saying take what she says with a grain of salt because historically she hasn't been the most open minded poster (to say the least).

incorrect on that in bold. i've seen quite a few posts telling vw to shut up.

i'm also unaware of any requirement that posting on vj can only be done by the open minded.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
