I'd like to endorse my attorney Calvin Knickerbocker. He was one of the most affordable and best attorneys available. He corrected over 10 errors on our initial documents for the K-1, and then many of my errors after. He was very informative and helpful. If it weren't for him, we'd still be waiting for Lin's visa. I suggest that anyone getting a K-1 visa for their fiancé or fiancée to call him and use his services. Be sure to tell him thank you again for me.

Good to hear your lawyer was able to assist you, however this isn't a site to promote or advertise for your lawyer.

Excuse me but there are people on this site who ask if anyone knows a good lawyer. It's not like the guy will send me $50.00 for a referral. I don't care if people tell him that Mickey Mouse told them to call. It's helpful info to anyone that needs or wants a lawyer.

Anyone who can manage (10) errors on an I-129F application is probably happy for all the help they can get Haole.

Nice to hear that some peeps are happy with their immigration lawyers. LOTS aren't. Including me!

Well, actually it was closer to 8. 2 were mine, and 6 of them were from not enough info from my fiancee. Maybe they were opinionated mistakes that the USCIS would look over (on a few) but my lawyer is on the cautious side and had me change them. That's what I paid him for. No room for error.

I continue to ask for some type of forum or maybe a time line entry that says if a lawyer was used and who it was. This absolutely makes my case for this. I have seen many complaints here on VJ about Calvin Knickerbocker. You seem to be happy with him. I just don't understand what is the problem with letting people know the level of service they receive so that the consumer can be informed. There are all kinds of resources on the web where you can get reviews about restaurants, buying a car etc. They even rate movies. Being together with your spouse is serious business. I guess I have a hard time understanding the resistance to this.

I know someone will jump up and say it's my fault for not doing my homework before hiring the guy. Would be nice if there was a resource where I could do my homework.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

I was debating using a lawyer or not for our filing. After looking over the documentation and considering the quality of the step-by-step guides found here, we elected to go it alone and so far have not regretted the decision. We just just received the NOA2 without any RFEs whatsoever. The key, in my opinion, is not rushing anything. It is very important to take the time to read and understand the process, steps and all the forms. Triple-check everything. Perhaps even have someone you know help you out. Sometimes we're so tuned into what we're doing that we don't see what's missing. It's just like when we wrote essays in school and had to correct them; it is always hard to spot our own mistakes, yet you look at someone else's essay and you spot the errors very quickly!

A good lawyer is instrumental, however, if someone does not have a good grasp of the English language, and/or if pressed for time.

Thanks to this website, we breezed through the whole process without one pretty quickly. If you are good at filling out paperwork and following directions, save your money for the impending move and for Adjustment of Status. My brother hired one and I thought it was a total waste of money for something he could have just done himself, considering the time he invested into gathering and laying out the information to the lawyer in the first place. In the easier cases, this website is better than any lawyer. If you have a more complex case where kids are involved, or you were denied, etc...by all means, consult a good attorney.
