There is never an excuse to display the appalling behaviour the extremists in McCain's campaign portray, and that comment from McCain's senior staff person is totally ludicrous! McCain was on the right track when he tried to stop the lynch mob mentality. The fact that the tried is all in his favour. The fact that he didn't succeed indicates how little respected he is within his own party. With supporters like that, who needs enemies? They are definitely disenfranchising any still undecided voters away from the Republicans.

Seriously.

Obama is a brave man, because you gotta know and he had to know that there are crazies out there that will not be able to handle a black man as President (if he is elected) and will try all sorts of ####### to get rid of him.

Any President, regardless of color, is a target for the "crazies". Obama really really wants to become the next President of the US, and his campaign is not a selfless act so bravery doesn't apply here at all.

I completely disagree. The thought of personal and familial security HAD to come up while deciding whether or not to run.

Personal attacks by the McCain team against Obama might work if the economy wasn't so bad. Unfortunately for McCain, it's the economy, stupid. Now, in all fairness to McCain, I don't know if Obama's plan for the economy is any better than McCain's, but McCain is a Republican, and let's face it, George W Bush has hurt the Republicans. Most voters who don't grasp the complexity of economic issues only feel the pain in their pocket and blame the current administration and his party. So, if W hadn't screwed things up so badly, the personal attacks on Obama might actually work. As it is, every time Sarah Baracuda opens her mouth, the gap in the polls between Obama and McCain seems to get bigger. And why oh why did McCain pick her? He could have had almost any one else with more experience and creditibility. If McCain wanted a woman as a running mate, he could have chosen 3rd term US Senator Olympia Snow (R-Maine), who is the only woman in history to be elected to both houses of her State Legislature and the US Congress, from a state that has more registered independents that it has Democrats or Republicans. Who knows, maybe she didn't want the job.

Earlier today, Obama remarked on recent outbursts of "Traitor!" "Terrorist!" and "Kill him!" at McCain campaign events. "It's easy to rile up a crowd," Obama said. "Nothing's easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that's not what we need right now in the United States."

In response, McCain senior adviser Nicolle Wallace released this statement, NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports. "Barack Obama's assault on our supporters is insulting and unsurprising ... He fails to understand that people are angry at corrupt practices in Washington and Wall Street."

His "assault" on McCain supporters?!?!?!?!?

####### Nicolle Wallace?

So, McCain supporters chant 'Kill Obama' and that's ok, because they are angry at Washington, and of course Obama represents washington which Obama doesn't understand so suggesting that the McCain campaing are deliberately riling them up is insulting to the folks who chant 'kill Obama'? I don't know how anyone can defend a position that this is this insane, but let's see someone try shall we?

Now I wonder where the outraged VJers are when they had cardiac arrest episodes over misquoted pigs with lipstick comments " supposedly" about Palin when we have quite frank and direct talk about killing Obama. Interesting indeed. And more proof of some people's pathetic innards.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

It's called selective outrage. If it fits their view, it's free speech. If it doesn't, it's an outrage. Typical hypocrisy. No surprise here.

That would be the same for every potential president though wouldn't it?

Sure, but you cannot deny that it may be more of a concern for the person who would, if winning, be the first African-American president of the USA. After all, the civil rights movement didn't happen all that long ago, and some people don't like change.
