McCain's view on the subject is fairly well established - that Supreme Court appointments need to reflect the constitution and not engineer policies of their own (he mentioned this in his speech at the RNC as well). This is also a common Republican party talking point, from what I understand.

Palin has already demonstrated that she isn't too familiar with McCain's record, now it seems she isn't clued up on some aspects of McCain's policy platform (which in my mind would seem to suggest that she was selected for more superficial reasons than agreement on policy).

I'm surprised that Palin didn't mention Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. given that she supposedly opposes it.

It's hardly a surprise that is where she wants go, it's the only thing she is comfortable talking about, herself! - that may be what's required to get voted onto a PA, but to be VP of the USA?

It's ludicrous that so many people are comfortable with this pick of VP and it's got nothing to do with elitism and all to do with common sense. The leaders of a country need to be able to do more than look cute and talk about their personal stories.

Palin had not known Mccain that long. What? Only a month since they got together on this ticket?

I am sure she's honing up on mcCain's positions over the decades...

Now every recalls that Obama stayed in Jeremiah Wright's church for TWENTY years and still did not learn about his GOD DAMN AMERICA stance and speeches.

Did he not? And, he's a Harvard and Coumbia graduate.

Give her the same two years that Obama has had on the campaign prepped by those briefing books and she'd do just as well. Only 2 years as VP should put her well ahead of the curve..

Bush might have pushed the UN to the limits of what it's prepared to accept from a participatory nation, but he's not such a darned old fool that he has attempted to pull out and/or disband it - why do you suppose that is?

What's the problem?

She doesn't have the know-how for the office to which she aspires. That's the problem.

I don't really care about the crowds she draws. I think I'm right to be suspicious of a campaign that tries to hide the shortcomings of one of its candidates by altering the format of televised debates to compensate for their weaknesses, and which feels the need to "remind" people of the superficial reasons why they liked her to begin with - not by addressing key areas of national policy but rather by fixating on her "hockey mom" public image.

I also suspect that I'd have more respect for McCain had he not pandered to the evangelicals by picking Palin and in doing so - prostituted off his established principles.
