Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says that paying higher taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans.

Biden says he and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama want to "take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people."

Under the Democrats' economic plan, people earning more than $250,000 a year would pay more in taxes while those earning less — the vast majority of American taxpayers — would receive a tax cut.

The trouble is, Obama isn't going to give us a tax cut. He will give us a tax rebate. That means that the 40% of workers that pay little or nothing in taxes will get a check. That isn't a tax cut, that is a redistribution of wealth. It will do nothing to solve the deficit problem.

Wait, You are talking about solving the deficit problem while supporting McCain's tax plan?

Obama's tax plan is not perfect, but McCain's is way way worse.

Lowering taxes especially for the rich (the richer you are, the lower your taxes will be under McCain) is more American. Why do you liberals hate America so much?

I wonder how many of the people that earn 250k or more are small buisness owners who file individual tax returns?

i think the most rational thing would be everybody pays the same % of taxes, like x% of their income. Call me crazy, but for me, it makes no sense it isn't that way, unless there is a good reason, like it would be terrible for the economy, i don't see why people should be punished for making more money, it's totally ridiculous and unfair.

Money that will be spent supporting our economy. ;)

No trouble there. And yes, the tax cut itself can be legislated. As it can also be modified to be more in tune with the times. Otherwise, the current rates set wouldn't need to be revised/renewed/expired to make way for new legislation.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Do the Australians ban movies? I know they classify them of course, but ban them? Which notable films have been banned in Australia, that otherwise would have led to an increase in homicde had they been put on general release in Australian Cinemas?

Mind you, if they banned films with Tom Cruise in them, I'm not complaining

Well there is a story that was out the other day about the Australian classification for Fallout 3 (videogame that's out at the end of October) - basically forced the distributor to remove all real-world drug references in the game, otherwise they wouldn't allow it to go on sale there.

Ah, facism at its best - more Goebbels please.

It certainly goes to show how a supposedly intelligent person can end up supporting evil ideas.

Remember, before I quote him, liberals have no logic..

American liberals have a knack at looking at issues through emotion rather than logic.

Now, here's his actual, "logical" post:

What reason for Australia, since you're Australian?

It's a very simple question, really.

Protecting the society from ####### that Crappywood produces. Ensuring we keep both violence and crime to a minimum. These are just simplified responses off the top of my head.

The results of such measures speak for themselves. What is the homicide rate in California alone. What is the homicide rate for the entire nation of Australia..

So logic says video games and movies are to blame for our homicide rates, and banning a few of them (which by no means actually addresses the millions of other violent movies/games) protects Australia from the evils of Crappywood.

That's the usual BY logic - 1+1 = 17.

No consideration of the social dynamics, socio-economic factors, population density etc that separate Australia from the US. All of this country's problems are caused by movies, videogames, rap music and porn

Hovering around the 250K, perhaps quite a few.

So maybe... just maybe... they can file tax returns as small businesses and take into account expenses that actually deal with their businesses. And take advantage of further business deductions.

Now as for the much larger income brackets in that top crust... the increase (that would most likely end up being quite modest to the individuals in that group if not insignificant to their incomes) would very well cover the reduction in tax liability or even tax bill for the rest of us and very most likely create a tax surplus that would ironically cover the plunder already waiting for us to make up.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Adults aren't allowed to make decisions for themselves. They're not old enough yet. When they're approximately 125, then they are old enough. So the government, who knows much better in terms of what makes them violent (I'm sure banning them from things wouldn't dare turn them violent), should make the choice for them. Hollywood is corruption that turns everyone who watches it into a killer, and video games turns people into zombies who mimic their every actions, so banning them is the most essential thing a government can do. It's just logical!

Actually if you look at the Jamie Bulger case in the UK - big murder case in the early 90's, it was "video nasties" that were used as the scapegoat for the perp's behaviour.

After the BBC showed a sample of random horror movies in the evening news, WH Smiths announced that it would no longer sell those titles. There was no evidence that the killers had watched those specific movies...

Punishment is not getting taxed past a cap of one's income. I fail to see how detrimental it would be for a rich person that didn't need the money to have to pay a pittance on what already makes them financially apical to the rest of the nation... while the absolute majority end up paying more proportionally for cost of living and market items than the rich.

Sure... your idea would work if everybody made somewhere around the same general range of income.

So it's the courts that are creating killers. We must ban courts immediately.
