Yea! Glad to know LL and her family made it through safely.

I have a med dent insurance question. I posted it in OT, but thought it was worth a post here. I will try to be as brief as possible. We have med & dent through my work, $80/mo. Hubby is eligible to enroll us in med and dent through his work, $60/mo. Should we get both? They are both PPOs and cover 90% in network and 60% out. I've never had to consider or deal with 2 insurance. I don't want to pay too much, but I know if we had a major illness/hospitalization....10% of a very large bill could take out our savings. Thoughts?

Is the cost the same for a family plan as it is for an individual plan? Usually, it's cheaper for two individual plans.

If it's the same, then I'd wonder is there a rider for having dual insurance? Many insurance companies now carry a rider and require you to report dual insurance policies and if so, it can be difficult to get either one to pay until one is identified as the primary for each individual and the other is the secondary to cover whatever is left. Then you just have to find out what the secondary will cover and how much will be your out of pocket in specific instances, such as in-patient or out-patient.

I SPOKE TO LL SHE AND HER FAMILY ARE OK!!!!! SO IS HER HOUSE :dance:

Thanks for the good news! It's good to hear she's doing okay!

The prices I listed are for both of us having coverage with each plan. If I keep my insurance and drop him, I will pay $0 for my coverage. If he enrolls himself at work (without me) its $25/mo. I'm going to call the benefits office to try to clarify some of this....sigh. I guess its a good problem to have.

Unless one of the plans has significantly better coverage than the other, I would go with the cheaper option. Of course, take into consideration your health concerns. For instance, I'm a diabetic, so I consider the costs of my equipment and medication when looking at health insurance plans. In terms of better coverage, the company Bassi is looking at a job offer for, has better dental coverage than my job does, so we'll sign up the family for that there. But we have the option of signing up for only dental coverage and not the entire health plan. The health plan at my job is better. Since we have a child, I have to have a family plan either way. If you can both get individual plans you'll save money on premiums. So, check and see if his plan has better coverage and decide if it's worth it to change.

Also, not to complicate things for you.....but check to see if you can change now without a penalty. Some plans only allow you to cancel your policy during certain times of the year. Usually November/December.
