I fail to see why when we are going to choose our next president that we have to worry about the rest of the world thinks.

Eventually we will elect someone that our so called friends will like and then they will come back to us with hands out stretched.

I don't think anyone need worry about it - but clearly the outcome of the US election is an event that's of interest beyond this country - especially in regards to foreign policy.

Some let themselves think what others outside of the USA think. Al Qaeda comes to mind.

luckytxn makes me wonder if the Census Bureau can come up with a figure of how many xenophobes are in the country. I think this would explain a lot in terms of rationales I've seen. :P

ah must be time to throw out that old chestnut, people who disagree with you must be xenophobes!

Well, given your justification, it tells me I'm right.

Xenophobes are excessively and irrationally afraid of foreigners and foreign intervention. Of course, somehow you consider that has anything to do with disagreeing, just to make this position justifiable.

Logic, begone.

this isn't about xenophobia, it's about foreign interests meddling in/attempting to influence an american election. sorry you can't see that. carry on with that little parade of yours though.

Well there are some folks that think that across the board, the racial minorities throughout much of the civilized world behave in a very "characteristic fashion"... and as such would make selecting such leadership potential much more difficult in [country of choice] due to the very different racial proportions in that same location. Plus it is no secret that contrary to what these same people believe... government policies in many of these countries are much more inclusive of these racial minorities once legalized as nationals in said places. Where marginalization tends to occur much less than what we still see here in the USA. Ironic.

And yet, I can think of only a handful of MPs in Britain who are black - none of whom have risen to significant positions of leadership.

While I don't for a minute dismiss the problems minorities face in this country, the idea that they have it all figured out in Europe is laughable. I guess the riots in France 3 years ago never happened, or that when black British actors complained they have to come to the US to get work, they are lying. Or my ears deceive me when I hear monkey noises at football matches in Spain.

What are the population dynamics in Britain for black/white and as I implied above- what's Britain like on a social level? Like I also stated... they most surely have racial problems. As well as socioeconomic marginalization. Yet given that example... what else (comparatively speaking) do British Africans an black Brits have to complain about as a community? Not really all that much when you compare it to US African Americans. And the US has a much larger population sampling involved. This is not about acting, its about life in general.

I also do not claim the Europeans have a major claim to having resolved racial problems. There is obviously PLENTY of very disgusting racism over there.

As for European football fans... well... Hooligans and the likes are everywhere.

I do agree on principle. On the other hand, what those foreign interests are rooted in is what worries me. Last election terrorists were used as a scapegoat into scaring up votes. This time foreign opinion doesn't seem to count unless it favors John McCain. Which is in essence implying the same thing.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

You just proved it is, with your "foreign interests" paranoia.

It's just. an. opinion. FOX news must really have you thinking there's some foreign invasion occurring from within the political system.

It's interesting to me that the Republican party can take something like a candidate's popularity and turn it into jibes about 'empty celebrity' and 'Messiahdom'. No doubt if McCain was attracting huge crowds nationally and internationally, they would be down-playing it like mad...

Which ironically, is precisely what we practice overseas. You can't expect to meddle without them pesky foreigners pushing back.

Yep - I don't see anything in the article that's suggesting that anyone is trying to explicitly influence the outcome of the election. After all the US doesn't exist in some sort of little closed box that exists outside of everything around it. Its not unreasonable to suggest that the outside world has at least some interest in the outcome of its biggest partner and ally...

Time we learned that we are not the world...
