These guys ain't real yuppies. They're yuppie-wannabes. The real yuppies are the ones who can afford to live within a 45 minute commute of the City :innocent:

So true! Anyone who would think that living in the equivalent of tract housing in the Poconos defines yuppieness is in need of an education.

AJ - I'd open that circle a hair to 55 minutes to NYC...I mean, come on, I define the yuppie lifestyle! You're nothing here without your mcmansion on 3 acres, pool boy, gardener, and luxury car.

So, I had to do the math because it's what I do:

98 miles from Tobyhanna to NYC one way - 196 miles round trip

Current IRS mileage rate: $0.505

Round trip per day if she drove - $98.98

Let's just say 20 days per month...$1979.60

They are SAVING money this way - if it costs a couple $1000/month : doing the math wouldn't that be $500/person?

Nevermind the fact that she isn't doing the driving, fighting traffic, worried about maintainence. I hate her!

[yes, wrong side of the bed, or I took my b****y pill today, take your pick].

and I thought my $400-$500/month for gas was a lot...... I guess my 2-3 hour daily commute isn't quite as bad as I thought. lol

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Sure, taking the bus does save her money over driving.

But if you're a typical Poconos commuter, that's not what you're comparing it to. You're comparing it to what the bus used to cost you.

simple solution: quit trying to impress your 'friends' by keeping up w/ the Jones. move to a home you can afford. get a vehicle you can afford to own. learn to shop at at walmart. eat your hotdogs & stfu. nobody doing the preceeding feels sorry for them.

I think its more of a case of it probably *was* affordable, and now, not so much. This person might also now be upside down in their mortgage. This is one bleeding heart liberal that recognizes times are changing - adapt or gtfo! Being liberal and understanding that is not mutually exclusive.

i am not familiar with Tobyhanna... but i am familiar with Asley, PA which is not far from Scranton/Wilkesbarre... not many mcmansions there... far cry from it actually... most of the ppl that live there are the kids and grandkids of men who worked the coal mines... living in their family's houses... not exactly a booming economy to save up and move to a MUCH more expensive area to maintain a job... not many jobs available there either

so, i thought i would look up houses for sale in Tobyhanna... there were some really nice homes there, indeed... but, here are a few of the other choices i found:

a lot of these posts are absolutely vicious... thats a bit rough without knowing her personal circumstances... hopefully it helps them feel better to vent all that (whether it is deserved or not)
