The BCG vaccination will and almost 100% of the time show a POSTIVE skin test. I wish there was a way around that. I was fortunate to not get that vaccine while I was living in Jamaica. Some of the skin reactions are horrible. You don't have to take meds unless something shows on your x-ray

WHAT! I've never heard of such. How will your doctor know you're taking the meds let alone USCIS?

he is a civil sergeant he send the meds to the nurse in your city and she will make sure you take them then she will fill a report and send it to the sergeant then he will send a letter to immigration based on that report means that you are under treatment ....it's just pull #### i don't how they can't treat you for something they are not sure of it it's really sucks

I am not a doctor, but it has always been my understanding that if a skin test show's positive for TB, the follow up is not medication but x-ray. The skin test gives many false positives. Perhaps a second opinion from another doctor is in order.

I am a doctor and I'm sorry that so many myths about BCG are circulated on this non-medical forum.

BCG as a child is very unlikely to be the source of a positive skin test in an adult. If you are 12 then your concern is valid and the poster who suggests that BCG ALWAYS make your PPD positive are correct. If you are in your 20's or older than the chance that you are positive from BCG (unless you were given BCG in the past few years) is very, very small. Almost zero.

So the truth is that most adults with a positive PPD, who received BCG in childhood, are positive because of exposure to TB. That is the reason that a positive PPD in an adult is treated exactly the same whether you received BCG or not. People keep spreading this myth that the positives are from BCG and then people feel angry. It isn't true!

So is the treatment Xray or meds? If you're not a doctor, maybe do a little research before you offer your medical advice? Nah, what the heck. Rumors are as good as facts! False negatives are a problem with the PPD, False positives are not as big a problem.

If you are under 35 and have no other liver disease then the treatment is antibiotics.

If you have other liver disease or are over 35 the treatment is yearly chest xray, with treatment of those who show active disease.

The most common med used (in America) is Isoniazid (INH). Other countries could have different resistence patterns and use different drugs so I won't tell you for sure it's what you will get in your country. The common side effects of INH are nausea, stomach pains, tingling sensations, and liver enzyme elevations (usually without significant liver damage in people under 35).

Please remember that side effects occur in a very, very low percentage of patients. Some of the common side effects of cars are paralysis, loss of limbs, disabling head injuries and death. That doesn't mean everyone who drives experiences one of those, nor does it make us declare that we'll never get in one of those things because of the possible side effects.

So to the OP, it is very unlikely that your BCG has anything to do with your current positive PPD (I'm assuming you are over twenty). The treatment is well tolerated by the majority of patients and the side effects are rare (assuming you are under 35). Liver function tests can be monitored during the therapy and if they go too high or are progressively elevating the therapy can be stopped. If you have other questions you can PM me.
