I keep wanting to post this and keep forgetting.

This is a, I guess you would call it ministry, I call it place that helps people. In short, every month they post a food menu where you can buy a box of food for around $30, a value of at least twice that. You can also add on additional boxes at a discounted price. Nothing to sign up for. No qualifications whatsoever. You call....you order....you pay....you go pick it up. There is a place in pretty much every area. Usually, a Church. A Church you do not have to belong to. Each place seems to have a certain date you must order and pay for it and a certain date you must bring a box and pick it up.

So, here's the link.....check your area and you can read a more comprehensive description of what they offer. If you can't use it, maybe someone else can.....pass it on.

We are actually going to try it for the first time this month. We ordered by the 4th and pick up on the 23rd. My step-sister in California has been buying from them for years. She loves it.

They list a menu on the site. Sometime's 2 months worth.

We are trying it for the first time this month. Pick it up on the 24th. So, I guess we'll see.

Yep.....If that is the menu for the month, that is what you get for the $30. How awesome is that?

I used to think it was for low income too. Like I said, my step-sister uses it all the time in California. I forgot all about it till they had a story on the news about a month ago and I thought, huh, maybe we should try it. Guess we'll see how it goes. So far, it was incredibly easy. I called and found out they collected the money and order on August 4th between 4 and 7 at a Church in my neighborhood. I go back and pick it up on the 24th. I have to take a box with me. That's it. No forms to fill out or anything. They just took my name and said they would ask for ID when I pick it up just so they don't give it to someone else.

Hey JG, I used to do Angel Foods all the time when I lost my job right after college. It was such a blessing. Back then it was like $15 per box too! The food helped me out alot and I loved them. I hadn't been able to find one near me now, so thanks for posting this.

Oh you're just getting crazier and crazier by the minute. Giving up red meat for any period of time is just not right.

Especially for latinos!!!!

I love this place. I've done it off and on for a few years now. You cant beat the deal that you get. Everyone should try to find a place close to you and do it.

I got our box today. It was pretty amazing:

A whole chicken

hot dogs

Chicken breast fillets

Chicken nuggets

4 steaks

frozen veggie mix

frozen spinach

frozen carrots

canned fruit

salisbury steak dinner

eggs

milk

bag of beans

bag of rice

box of mashed potatoes

teddy bear cookies

$30. I call it a bargain. Saw September's menu. I'm already planning on order again and again.

I'm confused. It says it's to help those in need:

headline_what_is_angel_food.gif

With a heart to help others and a generous spirit, Joe and Linda Wingo founded Angel Food Ministries in 1994 to provide food for friends and neighbors who were struggling financially. Today, they are still doing the same thing. The Angel Food program now is helping provide food relief to more than 500,000 families each month.

"In need" comprises many things though. It could be that a family's finances are strapped due to whatever circumstances. It could be a sing mom just needing a little help. Believe me, I've used this before and it is incredible! Not only that, the use of this ministry by everyone who wants to participate helps keep it going for the many others whose needs are greater than others. Make sense? I'm glad they don't put an income limit on their program. You never know when you might have a need - whether it's for one month or a few. I'm sure that they also make money from this that goes back into their program, thereby keeping it available for everyone. :)

Obviously they are not going to discriminate but this is clearly subsidized / donated food for those who cannot afford it. I don't believe this is designed for everyone to get a cheap meal. There is nothing worse than people who can afford something abusing something available for those who are struggling.

There is a girl I know who used to regularly go to thrift stores, obviously for the less fortunate, solely so she could get a bargain.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
