All Limbaugh laughs aside (the guy's a walking hypocrite joke.. would make a good pastor), Obama's clearly a politician, so making political points out of his ### is his MO.

However, what he said was:

"America is no longer what it could be.. what it once was".

And he's right. This country has sunk and isn't what it could be. The U.S. has been in dire straits economically, losing ground to other countries, and the shitty foreign policy the Bush Administration employed is a failure, making the country no more "safe" than it was pre-9/11.

A President doesn't need a flag jammed up his ### every time he/she speaks.

Yes, but if you think the fact that his statement was factual carries any weight with the conservative mindset, sadly, no. It's about wearing lapel pins and ignoring the truth. Always has been. For Rush and the conservative movement the President can be as stupid and foolish as they want but MUST have a flag jammed up their ### every time they do anything. Even a cursory look at the conservative movement shows this streak. There isn't a problem in America that can't be solved by projecting it onto some other country and breaking out the lapel pins.

So really there should be no surprise. This has been their worldview for a long time. America is always right, even when she's wrong! All Americans poop Golden Eggs while the others can't be trusted. America has no problems and all the kids should be taught this. It is actually common with any movement with fascist tendencies.

Talking to them about truth is really a waste of breath. They know the truth because they have the lapel pin. Get used to it. Respond as you would to any other schizophrenic. That's nice Billy. Isn't it time for your meds. Then escort them to a safe place.

So... what was so great about America in the past?

It seems to me that a number of people (particularly Democrats) love pointing out "just how far we've come" and so forth. In the past, Obama wouldn't have even had the opportunity to run for president (or become a senator) and stand up there, telling this child how "America isn't what it once was." So really, I fail to see what he's getting at, unless he's dying to sit in the back of the bus and make use of "special" facilities created for blacks.

Yup. America isn't such a bad place.

These Dems are such doom and gloom prophets. I guess they believe only the Messiah can make things better. Ya know... turn water into medicaid.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Didn't DPX just label a Democrat tendency to sow and show progress? I guess that is true. It tends to happen when people fight to change things that are not fair. Unlike others that are perfectly happy with social inequalities.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Bah...much of it is politics and the same was done when Clinton was in office. Par for the course. If you want to deconstruct their arguments, then actually argue why you think their ideas for a better America are worse than Bush's. Otherwise, you look like you're just whining for the sake of whining.

All I'm saying asking is "what was so great about America in years gone by?" Apparently, there's something Obama knows that I don't. However, I do know that years ago, he wouldn't have had the option to run for any political office, much less POTUS. I guess I just figure that, in most situations, today is better than yesterday.

I don't particularly like Bush either and I'll be happy to point out his faults, as well as those of the GOP. I dislike both Democrats and Republicans, if you really want to know. Just so you know, I never said Obama's ideas are necessarily "worse" (or "better," for that matter) than anyone else's. I've merely questioned his logic, that's all.

It's good not to be an ideologue. They tend to accept or reject an idea based on whether it jives with their ideology rather than accept it or reject based on its own merits. It'd be nice to actually be discussing/debating the merits of each candidate's ideas....at least that's what I find more interesting.

hmm if a 7 year old can stump him...whadda ya think will happen when he is at a summit???:bonk:

It unfortunately means he'd still fare a lot better than Bush.

i doubt it. they don't allow teleprompters at summits.

He might do a better job than Bush at hiding a wire.
