Current Status: Approval notice sent.

Congrats, that's long overdue, it's also a good sign we dont' want to put too much faith in HYENA's crystal ball, unless of course habibi is approved already about 6 days before you and just didn't find out until the hard copy gets there...

Gemmie: Yikes, web designers probably really do have it rough trying to work in their own field, the bar to entry is low, every 12 year old with a computer is a potential competitor, to be successful you really need to have strong scripting skills and the ability to create high quality artwork for the sites you make (not necessarily large but it takes skill to make a professional looking site!). The good news is, that's a field where it's extremely easy to get experience, you can do that in your own bedroom, getting professional experience is harder of course but either way, you don't have to even get an internship somewhere to showcase your skills... but the bad news is, no doubt web design is probably one of the hardest areas for any IT people to get work in, you pretty much have to be able to do everything and do it very well (not just making a web page but building scripts and handling database transactions or at least knowing how to find pre-built ones and getting them installed and working) or you need to get hired on for something else you can do (more general it work like fixing computers, or something along those lines). Have you seen his resume? Maybe he should mail you a copy, I imagine if he's a good web designer then his resume should be well laid out, but sometimes people surprise you (my first resume was so embarrassingly bad... I knew it wasn't great at the time but oh man... like 6 short lines, centered... it probably didn't even have any contact information, or maybe that was half the lines or something... it was BAD).

If his resume looks unprofessional, especially in his line of work, it'd be really hard to get anywhere, so make sure it looks good, if it doesn't look for resume templates, for the most part find a good one, and switch out the filler text/john doe stuff with his information. If he wanted to post a copy where we could see it and give tips I'd be open to at least looking, no gaurentees I'd have anything useful to add, of course I'd recommend editting out his personal info like his phone and address (but leave some XXX's to indicate that they were there...). A lot of low end jobs (the kind that should be easy to get for ANYONE) probably don't require a resume but it can help, but if he applies to them it's probably better to have a different resume that doesn't focus so much on his IT goals/skills, and focuses more on his general education, and his personal skills etc. People not looking to hire IT guys don't like to read all the jargon and abbreviations that are likely on his regular resume.

and congrats Shan Sohail.

King's and Queen's have gotten a demand or two in (seems like I called some NOA2's just at the right time... I also might have demanded donuts once and I bet I got some... even if they didn't show up until i was on a diet).

Remember when the posts were solid CSC posters... and we were wondering where all the VSC people went.... I think we just found them hehe (pretty soon this place will be wondering where the CSC folks are hiding haha).
