Hello Everyone,

My Fiancee and I are currently awaiting NOA2 from the Vermont Service Center. We are planning to get married at Sandal's in Jamaica next year. I know she will not be able to "enter" the United States on her K1, then leave for Jamaica, and then "re-enter" the US. My question is: Can she transit through the United States on the way to Jamaica without officially "entering" the US?

The itinerary I'm looking at would be: Bangkok>Los Angeles>Atlanta>Montego Bay, with her official "entry" occuring after our wedding in Jamaica.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Probably not but your bigger issue is that the K1 visa requires the marriage take place in the USA, so a Jamaica wedding is out of the question entirely. If you wish to "celebrate" in Jamaica before she enters the USA, fine or you wait until she has AP to leave the USA.

Entering the USA activates, uses and kills the single entry K1 visa.

What pushbrk says is correct (as always :) ). I think your best option would be for her to enter the US on her K1 visa, get legally married immediately in the courthouse, and file for AP right away. With a bit of luck, you'll have that in 30 days and can then travel to Jamaica for your wedding ceremony (non-legal) and honeymoon.

I would suggest that this has about a million in one chance of happening in one month! The average wait time is 3 months, and by the looks of some people's comments in other forums, it's getting to be longer than 3 months now....

There's always the option of filing for emergency AP. This requires the separate fee but not any health emergency. I've seen it granted for no more reason that the wife joining the husband on an international business trip. This could well be a moot point, since the K1 marriage cannot be in Jamaica.

Agreed that it's moot if they wanted to marry in Jamaica and not the US. I was responding however more to the first response that suggested that they could get married in the US, get AP in 30 days, then go for their wedding ceremony and honeymoon in Jamaica. I doubt anyone is going to get an emergency AP to go on their honeymoon in 30 days.

I understood where you were coming from. Standard AP is going to take more than 30 days, the vast majority of time. However, "emergency" in this context simply means the applicant wants to travel right away and is willing to go to the trouble of showing up to ask and to pay the fee. Still, I wouldn't count on it until in hand. Interesting the OP hasn't returned.
