Congratulation, griffin! :dance::dance::dance:

NYC_Prospect Oath Ceremony scheduled for 01/23

[/font]

Hey all,

Just wanted to report - I took the oath this morning at the court in downtown New York. It wasn't as "festive" a ceremony as I expected. The court staff were extremely helpful and took great care to explain patiently to everyone, what they needed to do.

What was especially cool was that the History Channel is doing a program about immigration and naturalization and they were in the hall videoing the new citizens, the oath ceremony and doing one-on-one interviews. People that appeared in close-ups were requested to provide releases etc. SO - there's a small chance I might get to see my ceremony on TV sometime.

The judge who presided gave a great speech - his own parents had come to America right after the First World War. He also took time to do a Q&A session with a group of school kids who had been brought in by their teachers on a field trip. Once I received my certificate I headed home, and promptly dropped it off at the Post Office as part of my passport application.

Thanks - and all the best to everyone that's still in the process.

P.S. I had told my friends I wouldn't celebrate until the ceremony was really over and I had the certificate in my hand. Sure enough, there were people in the hall (I'd guess 5-6) whose files had been misplaced on the trip between USCIS and the court so they didn't get their naturalization certificates right away but took the oath and then went over to the USCIS office - I presume to get their certificates.

Congratulation, NYC_Prospect !

I'm sooooo happy for you!:dance::dance:

Finally you're done with USCIS, and deal with the State Department for US Passport.

Since it is about lunar calendar New Year's day, you can enjoy your own party with your family, and friends to celebrate your joyful moment.

Don't get grumpy, just look at the timeline of the person from the same office as you. They are pretty slow. I estimate you will have your oath in March. It will happen, don't worry!!!!

Good, Lyuba!

I also requested US Passport Card since my wallet has empty spot for my old green card.

I kind of feel that I'm not safe without carrying the card since I carried my green card and/or passport/I-94 for so long.

We need meditation classes...

Probably USCIS needs to provide life-time membership with USCIS for rest of life for free.

I'm thinking of getting the job from USCIS since I became a US citizen.

Ohh My goodness!!!

That was so crazy. My husband and I went together to the interview, when they called me, the agent told me that my husband wasn't needed on the interview and that he will have to way outside for me.

I'm glad that your husband was able to show up pretty soon...

Success!!!

I passed my interview today. The wait was only 5 minutes. The guy was difficult. He asked me where my husband was before even asking any questions. I said he was at work. He proceeded with the interview, asked me all kind of questions, signed all kind of forms. Didn't care to see any paperwork or anything except for the green card.

In the end he said he needed to see my husband before he could make any decision. He said that I might tell him that I still live with my husband but actually he is in Florida and our marriage is a scam.

So I got out of his office, dialed my husband's number and told him to get his butt to the immigration office as soon as possible which he did. :star: The officer talked to him for a few minutes (just small talk, not even about our marriage) and approved me for citizenship.

I guess he was happy to see that my husband indeed exists.

Anyway I should get an oath letter in a month or two (hopefully quicker).

The officer told my husband that they are doing it on a routine basis to avoid marriage scam. It isn't anything about me or my application, it is just a new procedure. Make sure your spouse come to the interview with you!
