Hello Everyone,

My fiance finally got his visa May 31, 2008 in Naples Italy. Thank you Thank you Visa Journey!! WE want to thank everyone who was so kind to help us figure out this sorted process! This website was an absolute Godsend!!!!

My question is my fiance is arriving to Chicago on June 24th. I was wondering if he can work right away or does he have to wait for the green card?

Thank you in advance

Regina

He can try asking for the temporary EAD at the POE. If he does not get it then he will have to wait for the EAD (if you choose to apply for it with AOS) or the greencard.

He will also need an SSN to work.

In order to get a temporary work permit (EAD) he must enter the US via JFK airport. The EAD is only good for 90 days. You should file AOS (along with EAD &AP since they are included in the fee if they are filled at the same time) as soon as possible, to avoid a lapse in work authorization.

Also, apply for his SSN 1-2 weeks after he is in the US. The standard recommendation is 2 weeks. We did it after 1 week and were fortunate not to have any problems.

Just to add that you need to be married before you can file AOS/EAD/AP....

YMMV
