Were all gun happy today. YEEEEEHAAAAAAA!!!!!!

more like educated a bit more than before this thread was started ;)

I'm well educated thank you very much.

apparently your education was short in a few key areas.

I'll put a stop to that.

All guns should be banned always and forever unless you are a policeman, then guns are your right and privelage.

How's that?

uh how about no. is no good enough for you?

There's a tear running down my glass eye.

No unicorns and rainbows today, I'm busy aquiring a flame thrower. Shoot, are they powered by gas or propane?

save your money, the economy is slow. you can make napalm w/ what you've got around the house. ;)

Is that the "equal parts of gasoline and frozen orange juice concentrate"?

The facts as I see them are:

the gun did not load itself

the gun didn't put itself into this womans purse.

the gun didn't put the purse (with the loaded gun in it) near this child.

the gun did not tell the grandmother to not supervise this child near a purse with a loaded gun.

So I am curious why people who think gun laws should be stricter think the gun was at fault in this particular story?

Put the blame where it belongs...

I use to do technical support for Intuit's Small business software (Quickbooks) and we had an order to check things U.D.A.S. The very first thing is USER. (Data, Application, System... for those curious about the others)

Another thing I want to add is a saying a friend of mine knew in Latin, English translation is:

If Catapults were outlawed only outlaws would have catapults, now replace catapult with guns...

You could easily kill someone with one of those cling wrap roller thingies they use for bundling lumber, wrapping pallets and such. 10 wraps around the person's wrists & 10 around their head; covering their nose and mouth.

Paper clip poked in the jugular will kill someone.

Syringe full of air works, when applied properly.

A wooden shim, like those used for installing windows and doors, makes a good weapon. Reasonably sharp, and can be burned after use.

A common tape measure can be used to decapitate someone.

Ice picks offer many choices for the would-be homicidal maniac.

A stake through the heart isn't just for vampires, ya know.

Swords are readily available at RPG-Dork stores, eBay, and several other sources. Swords can decapitate a lot of people in a short time.

Just a few of the ways that people can kill each other without guns. So take your "Guns are Evil!!!11" ####### and shove it up your #######. Guns aren't evil, PEOPLE are evil. I say we make procreation illegal. The problem will die out on its own.

I don't even know how the tape measure thing is supposed to work so how do I know if mine works or not!!!

I am like totally freaking out here!!!

I can't divulge ALL of my trade secrets, now can I?

Suffice it to say that I could be holding a severed head in my hand within a minute of unleashing my Stanley Fat Max tape measure....

Oh, and the best trick ever.....

First, learn anatomy well enough to know where the jugular is.

Second, with a long, thin metal item (like, say, a bicycle spoke sharpened to a point) pierce the victim's throat from the side OPPOSITE the jugular, but being sure to go through the trachea and into the jugular.

Third, leave the scene.

The victim will drown in their own blood as the blood from the jugular runs into their trachea, filling their lungs.

Not that I've ever tried that, or anything.....

Yeah, I can see the headline:

"4 year old kills herself with a paperclip from Grandma's purse"

"We are the real countries,

Not the boundaries drawn on maps,

With the names of powerful men.

That's all I've wanted -

To walk in such a place with you,

On an earth without maps."

COLUMBIA, S.C. - A 4-year-old girl shot herself in the chest Monday after snatching her grandmother's handgun from the woman's purse while riding in a shopping cart at a Sam's Club store, authorities said.

A witness, Lueen Homewood, said store workers grabbed first-aid materials off store shelves to help the grandmother as she cradled the wounded child near the store's pharmacy, The (Columbia) State newspaper reported on its Web site.

The girl was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and was recovering Monday afternoon after surgery, said police department spokesman Brick Lewis. Hospital officials would not release her condition after the operation.

Lewis said the grandmother, Donna Hutto Williamson, has a permit to carry a concealed weapon and the purse containing the small-caliber handgun was in the cart near the child. The 47-year-old Williamson, of Salley, was not immediately charged with a crime.

Williamson, a South Carolina magistrate, was distraught after the shooting, her mother-in-law said.

"The grandmother is just beating herself up," said Inease Williamson, 68. "She is just so upset. Everyone is upset."

Officials said the shooting, which was captured on store surveillance cameras, appeared to be accidental. Lewis said police would not release the video.

The store was closed while police investigated the shooting. It reopened Monday afternoon.

"Everyone at Sam's Club is deeply saddened by today's tragedy," Tara Stewart, state spokeswoman for Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the little girl and her family."

Concealed weapons permit holders in South Carolina are not allowed to carry weapons into buildings that prohibit it, or into government buildings, schools and daycare facilities, among other places.

The Sam's Club store does not have a sign prohibiting guns inside.

It's just sad :(

I think blame can be divided up between the grandmother and the Sam's Club store. We've already discussed the grandmother and how she should've known better than to keep a loaded firearm that close and easily accessible to a small child; however, it seems we've all missed the part Sam's Club played in this. Most places -- including banks, schools, malls and grocery stores -- have clearly labled signs indicating that "no weapons are allowed" on the premises. The story says that no such warning was posted on this particular Sam's Club, which led the grandmother to believe that she was legally entitled to bring her CHL-approved gun in with her. Had such a sign existed, she would've left her gun either at home or in the car. In either case, her grandchild would've been able to grab and use it.

Outlawing firearms obviously won't work. Even if evidence suddenly appeared that could prove, without a shadow of a doubt, homicide rates would fall if firearm proliferation decreased, it still wouldn't happen. There would have to be a change in the Bill of Rights and most Americans would have a fit over such an act -- very few politicians would be willing to put their political career at risk when they know the Second Amendment is revered by so many.

I tend to question the logic behind the idea that the American public could "rise up and fight off a tyrannical government." We couldn't and anyone who is sane knows this. When that idea came about, it was the late 18th century and the difference between what weapons the "average man" and the military had were minimal, at best. Back then, if there was a large-scale revolt, there would be very little the military could do about it.

As technology has progressed over the years, this has changed quite a bit. Today, the "average homeowner" might have a handgun and/or a hunting rifle and/or shotgun at best. What does the military have? Well, you name it, they've got it. Any violent action against our government could be stopped very quickly.

The only chance non-military personnel would have is to forget about conventional warfare (and the use of guns), thereby relying on terrorist tactics. This is exactly what our enemies in the Middle East have been doing, since they know they'd lose horribly if they were to engage us in army-on-army fighting.
