I'm glad Mags didn't post on a message board somewhere that I am a moron.... I wouldn't have taken it well.

I just read this post - on a public message board. Can't say I'm particularly happy about it.

Common sense isn't available to me in bucketloads but still, I would have waited until I had the visa in hand. Except that I do stupid stuff when I'm in love. And when your fiancee has an enforced celibacy counter in her VJ profile (not a subtle hint) and tells you not to wait until to have the visa in-hand before quitting your job and house, what do you do?

I mean, where was I supposed to live if I give my landlord notice? Can't afford a hotel indefinitely. I'd have to stay either at my friend's house or at my parents. My friend offered to help me out for two weeks but after those two weeks were up, and I had no visa inhand and no dependable date for its arrival, I did the most sensible thing and arranged to stay at my parents.

The cost involved is irrelevant against a worthwhile, lifechanging event. I had the money. My parents were happy to see me, my friend was happy to help and I got the visa in the end.

MY common sense approach would have been to stay in work and renew my lease month-by-month under the visa was in-hand. But I listened to my fiancee and took her advice. Just because it didn't turn out the way we wanted doesn't mean I was wrong, doesn't mean she was wrong.

We both wanted to be together as quickly as possible, we did what we had to do and it cost what it cost. The instructions WERE confusing. They didn't explain what ACPO meant; that there were two police certificates. Had I known, everything would have been fine.

She's calling you a "moron" when

........ his IQ is actually a couple of points higher than mine.

Hmmmmm.... I don't blame you for being annoyed at all, I would be too, but cut her some slack- she still has a couple of IQ points to catch up on.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Give her a break. She was just venting. Better here in jest then yelling at you cause she can't take the stress.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Morons, I am surrounded by Morons!

His interview was April 28th. About a week before this, he decided he would go book his ticket for May 7th, about which I had grave reservations.

Naturally, something had to go wrong. Apparently, he received the wrong police certificate (?) for the interview and had to get another. The courier was supposed to deliver the new certificate to the embassy on May 2nd. For whatever reason and also owing to a bank holiday on the 5th, the courier did not actually get the certificate to the embassy until May 6th. Of course, at this point, fiance had to rebook his ticket, which he did for the 14th.

His last day of work is today. It's now after 2:30pm his time and the courier from the embassy has not yet arrived. Fiance is currently staying with a friend because he had to move out of his previous residence when his lease (or whatever the British equivalent is) was up. If he doesn't receive his visa by Tuesday, he'll have to rebook AGAIN at ridiculous expense to him. Furthermore, he's concerned that he's overstaying his welcome at his friend's place and if he doesn't receive his visa on time, he's insisting that he's going to book tickets to go stay with his parents in Northern Ireland so he's no longer imposing on his friend, which will necessitate more needless expense both for the ticket and the additional cost the courier is going to tack on for having to travel to NI.

I am ready to scream. WHY did he book his ticket in the first place?!?!

I just suddenly feel like I'm marrying a ####ing moron, even though his IQ is actually a couple of points higher than mine. How much foresight does it take to not book your ticket until your visa is in-hand? I swear I want to slap him. He's not made of money, but he's potentially going to go through hundreds of pounds of needless expense all because he didn't think before he booked his ticket and also because he's too ####ing proud to "overstay his welcome."

AAARRRRRGHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Give her a break. She was just venting. Better here in jest then yelling at you cause she can't take the stress.

Imagine your searching the net, and you come across a post your fiance posted in a public forum telling everyone your a moron.....i know id be upset....would you??

To some, calling them a moron to a public forum (one they do not belong to and happens to find it by mistake) is a bit rude.

Aye. A bit rude indeed.

However, it WOULD reduce the stress of the immigration process.... There wouldn't BE an immigration process any longer if I found such a post about me on the net.

Well, I wouldn't care. I bet my husband forum or chat bitches all the time about some dumb thing I did. So what? My husband is allowed to be annoyed and angry with me if I did something stupid. I don't see the harm about complaining on the internet about it.

I don't know. It just seems a little disrespectful to me. But that's me. *shrug*

So, he is never supposed to vent to anyone ever about me being an idiot? I think that is a little unreasonable. I just fail to see the difference the internet makes compared to complaining to others outside of it.

Any post made about anyone or anything is on the internet forever. Either in Google's cache, on the wayback machine, or here on VJ where nothing ever seems to get deleted. lol

I don't care if Mags complains about me. But to do it on the internet where anyone can pull it up to read at any point in the future..... no thanks. Complaining to one or two people =/= complaining to the entire planet and telling them I'm a moron.

People have things called memories. If you ###### to people in real life, they can recall it sometimes better than you can. It is their way back machine. So, I don't see the difference, particularly since people have no idea who I am besides some chick some guy at some forum is briefly annoyed with.

I think I am far more concerned with the people I do know as opposed to the people I don't know. And beyond that, who cares? I don't know who the OP is. I never knew she existed before this thread. I don't care about her really but I understand what it is like to be frustrated with someone you love. Sometimes there is no one in real life you can talk to that gets it. I get that much. It is therapeutic to discuss it.
