His interview was April 28th. About a week before this, he decided he would go book his ticket for May 7th, about which I had grave reservations.

Naturally, something had to go wrong. Apparently, he received the wrong police certificate (?) for the interview and had to get another. The courier was supposed to deliver the new certificate to the embassy on May 2nd. For whatever reason and also owing to a bank holiday on the 5th, the courier did not actually get the certificate to the embassy until May 6th. Of course, at this point, fiance had to rebook his ticket, which he did for the 14th.

His last day of work is today. It's now after 2:30pm his time and the courier from the embassy has not yet arrived. Fiance is currently staying with a friend because he had to move out of his previous residence when his lease (or whatever the British equivalent is) was up. If he doesn't receive his visa by Tuesday, he'll have to rebook AGAIN at ridiculous expense to him. Furthermore, he's concerned that he's overstaying his welcome at his friend's place and if he doesn't receive his visa on time, he's insisting that he's going to book tickets to go stay with his parents in Northern Ireland so he's no longer imposing on his friend, which will necessitate more needless expense both for the ticket and the additional cost the courier is going to tack on for having to travel to NI.

I am ready to scream. WHY did he book his ticket in the first place?!?!

I just suddenly feel like I'm marrying a ####ing moron, even though his IQ is actually a couple of points higher than mine. How much foresight does it take to not book your ticket until your visa is in-hand? I swear I want to slap him. He's not made of money, but he's potentially going to go through hundreds of pounds of needless expense all because he didn't think before he booked his ticket and also because he's too ####ing proud to "overstay his welcome."

I totally agree!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Sadly that new APCO police cert caught a lot of people out!

Try not to be too hard on him! At least he is sensitive to other people's feelings. That's a good thing. Losing a bit of money needlessly hurts, but you get over it.

Hope the rest is all sorted soon!
