I am getting stuff together for NVC, and I was reading about the DS-230 and it says that documents such as marriage and birth certificates should be orginial or a certified copy.

Does the NVC send the original/certified copies of documents back to us or do they get forward to the embassy and returned to you there?

Don't ever send your originals anywhere! I am not sure what you'd be sending documents to the NVC for but never send the originals to anyone! They lose stuff all the time. Read the guides. Those tell you very well what to send where.....

PS: I am not sure how it works for K3 but for K-1 the USCIS is sending the documents to NVC (the ones the processed and approved) and NVC is sending them to the embassy. I didn't have to send anything at that point

We sent our originals to NVC/embassy, we hope to get them back at the interview. If you dont want to send originals you can send certified copies and take originals to the interview, cause they will ask for them anyway.

Hi, I wrote this thread up a few days back ..... everything you'll need to think of is on there

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=124755

As you'll notice when you click on the DOS link for documents required, you'll see it says certified originals.

I've got certified originals waiting to go with my DS-230 ..... all your stuff is supposed to be forwarded onto the Embassy, so I'd send off for a couple of spare certified originals just incase they do lose them.

Don't forget to check out the other links on this site for details for online payments.

Goodluck with NVC and I hope to hear you guys having a smooth and quick process which brings you together soon

If your Husband is the English one then certified copies of birth certificates are easy

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

They take about a week .... get a couple of them so you have spares on file

My husband is the English one thanks so much for the link, he was trying to figure out how to rearrange his schedule to be able to travel to get his birth cert, good to know he can get it online.

Thanks

sorry guys to ask this stupid question: What does certified original means? It is not notarized, right?

I think it means that the copy is from the place where it is stored and has been certified by them as a true copy of the original ..... it must be certified as a true copy of the original from the place it is from ... hope that makes sense.
