CSI Miami is #1, CSI is #2 and CSI: New York is #3 around the world (total global audience)

and I have now worked for 2 companies that turned down the rights for CSI - how smart we were

Isn't that partly because they are available in areas where other US programs aren't?

Well, they are widely sold, but that is because they have been so successful here and elsewhere

crime dramas work well in almost every country.

Right, but certain markets like China, for example, closely scrutinize and even censor their TV programming. Also, the type of humor on sitcoms probably doesn't translate very well in other countries. Cop shows like CSI appeal to wider world audience because their plot lines are pretty easy to follow. I can't imagine a show like Scrubs going over well in most non-English speaking countries.

Did anyone see the 40 Year Old Virgin.

Think David Caruso in Jade:

Girl: Can I help you?

Guy: I don’t know, can you?

Girl: Are you looking for something?

Guy: Is there something I should be looking for?

Girl: We have plenty of books, it depends on what you like.

Guy: What do you like?

Girl: We have plenty of do-it-yourself.

Guy: Do you like to do it yourself?

Girl: (Laughs)Sometimes, if the mood strikes.

Guy: How is the mood striking you now? (Laughs)

Girl: What’s your name?

Guy: What is your name?

Girl: Beth.

Guy: Andy.

Girl: Andy? Don’t tell on me Andy.

Guy: I won’t Beth. Unless of course you want to be told on.

no western company can get anything in China - ER is I think the only exception. Most countries prefer their own shows anyway

comedy doesn't really translate at all - there are a few exceptions

I LIKE David Caruso. I LIKE CSI: Miami. I LIKE the character he portrays, albeit all his quirkiness. I would also imagine people who've responded to this thread watch him as well, or have...given the comments here. hehe

I think I watched 3 episodes in total of CSI Miami in the 6 years or so it's been running, enough to make me decide I do not like it and that David Caruso's character is ridiculous (sorry just my opinion :star: )...I love CSI Vegas though, watched every episode of that one.

I watched the first part of the CSI Miami episode last night where Horatio turns in his gun and badge because he's the main suspect. I hope it ended with him getting sent to jail and becoming some other prisoners female lover.
