Nope, just demonstrates weak character and a propensity to not follow through once having taken on a difficult task......

He doesn't care enough to take care of himself - to lead the country as a healthy person. To take care of his own body so he CAN lead the country. Presidential Physical Fitness program anyone? Every prez makes a big deal about working out & health. Why should he be any different?

Noted: All Obama folllowers/smokers are replying it doesn't change their opinion. ;)

That's a ridiculous stretch and I think (OK, I hope) you know it. If someone is trying to quit smoking, that means they care about their health. He couldn't have chosen a more difficult time in his life to try to quit, but he's doing it anyway. That shows a great commitment to health to me. But either way, it's obvious that everyone cares about health. You didn't care about your health at all for the 20 years you smoked? And whether or not he cares about his own health (and I'm sure he does) has little to do with a health care plan. That's just silly. Come on.

Bill was all fast food and no exercise for a lot of his career. That didn't mean I ever thought for an instant he didn't care about health care.

I'm not sure whether your argument is getting more ridiculous or more pathetic day after day. The more I think of it, the more I think it's both.

Oh so that's why his lips are so purple!!!!! I didn't know he was a walking chimney.

Great, our next president will probably be a lung cancer poster child, just what the US needs.

Seriously...

Lying about it? Not cool.

Wonder how much he gets $$ from tobacco companies?

Kinda makes his plan on caring about healthcare seem a bit off...

If you think it won't turn somevoters off, you are wrong. ;)

If that is the least of his bad habits, I would be overjoyed.

I've been there done that....you lie about it cause you are ashamed you can't actually quit even though you really want to.

Seriously, if that is the worst someone can come up with................What's next? He sometimes kicks his dog or doesn't hold the door open for old ladies?

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

What's the reasoning here - falling off the tobacco wagon makes BO dishonest or having poor personal willpower and hence "unsuitable to lead the nation".

A person would have to be cracked in the head to fall for reasoning like that!

Nope, just demonstrates weak character and a propensity to not follow through once having taken on a difficult task........Simply doesn't have the "right stuff" to lead....

gee i guess i can be included then in that statement as i smoke.

Why, have you declared to the entire world that you're quitting, and are you running for the highest public office in the nation, and are you a role model fro every child in this nation?

If it's no, no, and no, then it doesn't apply......

BTW, I quit 20 years ago (the same day the Challenger exploded) and I went to a Hypnotist- worked for except I quack like a duck inexplicably from time to time.....

As I say - a person would have to be cracked in the head to base a rationale that a candidate's is unsuitable for high office just because he has trouble giving up smoking. Perhaps he simply shouldn't have stopped smoking at all - so that people can't complain about flip-flopping.

Whatever next - seriously sad and pathetic.

I might as well argue that we should discount any and every candidate who has ever smoked, had the tiniest hint of a drink problem, or given into any sort of temptation.

I'm sure there have been quite a few presidents who have a few "tipples" throughout the day too. I'm sure there are a few presidents who liked the occasional fast food fix. I'm sure there are presidents who never partook in any physical sports and were unfit.

I mean, come on. Some have habits, some do not. We can't all be shining examples of non smoking, healthy eating fitness fans.

So, Obama smokes? So what. Quite a few presidents have smoked (pipes and cigars included) and many have given up once elected to the White House (they've had to...Hillary made it smoke free in 1993). Hopefully, Obama will keep on trying and one day succeed. However, if he doesn't (and being president is a highly stressed job) then I doubt it will have any affect on how he would run the country...but he will have to have his crafty ciggies on the White House lawn though. :P
