Are you trying to IN the US? If so, I am almost positive your friend will not be allowed entry at any port. That's the way it is. Getting out is no problem.

As for the haters, they will come and lavish you with insults... let them be and don't mind them.

We're located in the la suburbs, so we were hoping to a make it a nice weekend trip down there in san diego. I'm asking is there any check points heading TOWARD the san diego area near the san diego zoo. I heard san clemente was pretty bad , and I know we have to pass it on our way down there. I'm just hoping to get some great information , so that nothing bad happens if we do decide to go down there. I don't mind the haters, most of my friends growing up were illegal, so i'd like to say i was informed rather than making bias stereotypical statements.

as an SD resident that on occasion travels to LA, I can tell you that the border checkpoint at San Clemente does not check immigration status as one goes south on the 5 freeway. Going North the border checkpoint @ San Clemente is no longer checking cars on a regular basis. The border checkpoint on the I15 near Temecula is also one that has stopped checking. The border checkpoints on the I8 near Sunrise Highway and on the 94 freeway near Jamul are still active.

We left San Diego a year ago. I always made sure my husband hadn't forgotten his wallet when we drove north to visit family in LA. However we never saw guards. When I was little I remember people looking into the car and waiving us through. We drove north on the 5 and the 15 hundreds of times over 3 years and the only time we were stopped was on the move up (3/07). I was in the moving van going through the weigh station and my husband went through by himself. He said the guy just waived him through. They look for certain things. However, my aunt's cleaning lady was stopped a couple of years ago once and they detained her for a few hours although she was legal--her papers were in the trunk.

You could always go in two cars and have one person drive through first and call back before the second car drives north. The zoo is great. enjoy.

Be warned. The Polar bears are undercover Border Patrol agents.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Oh yes. Just outside of San Clemente - the edge of Orange County. As you return up the 5 North, there is a checkpoint. I've gone through it many times with no problems, but I've heard of the patrolmen asking for identification randomly (especially if you are brown skinned). If your friend has a valid CA ID or license, that's all they require for identification. They may ask questions randomly, such as 'Where were you born.' The check point is NOT always manned...my guess is they only man it when they expect a lot of traffic coming from south.
