Alex,

REALLY?!?!?!!

NONE??? that sounds terrible.. HOWEVER, I dont feel that my elite status means so much with NWA as it does with partners such as KLM, etc... I always comment that when i do my normal route from ind-dtw-ams-sto that i feel like i am abused till i see the KLM staff in bule. Regardless, having priority check in, seating, the upgrades i know makes travel more pleasant than for the non elite member. I guess it is not till gold or platinum that you really get the gold carpet.

KLM actually lost my luggage a few months ago when my wofe and I were working in Nairobi and managed to deliver my luggage and MONETARY COMPENSATION to where were working, IN THE SLUMS OF KWANGWARE!!!!

That is definately something!!

In general I don't mind kids on airplanes at all, but when I am flying long distance and I am tired and groggy myself and then I have to listen to a screaming kid for hours at a time..yeah, that would cost me some nerves too. But I would never say anything or be rude because I knw I will be in that position sometimes and I don't want to hear anything bad about my kid.

Generally, I don't mind, because most parents work at making the flight as easy as possible on their children and the other passengers. I can sympathize with young babies reacting to the changes in cabin pressure as the plane ascends and descends and they generally don't cry for the whole flight.

There was one flight from Atlanta to Detroit, however, that was a nightmare. In the seat right behind me was a screaming brat - and I mean brat. (The 2 seats beside me were empty - the only empty ones on the flight). The kid didn't want to sit still in his seat so started to scream. His parents were totally ineffective. He kept undoing his seatbelt and standing up on his seat. His parents did nothing. When the stewardess came by and told them to make him sit, he started to scream and kick the back of my seat again. The only time he was silent is when he was scrambling over top of his parents and dashing up and down the aisle of the plane. His parents again did nothing until the stewardess told them to get him and make him sit down. They strapped him into his seat and he began screaming and kicking the back of my seat again. I moved to the seat closest to the window to get away from him but it didn't help. I heard them trying to bribe him with candy, with promises of toys, with promises of movies, everything. Not once did they exert any discipline on the child. He was 4, maybe 5 years old - certainly old enough to behave a lot better than he did. In this case, I blame the parents completely. That was the longest, most trying flight I have ever had in my life - and I know I was not alone. I had a horrible headache by the time we arrived. The parents didn't even have the courtesy to apologize.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I've never actually had a bad experience on a plane with kids, that I can remember. I'm always terrified when I see a dozen toddlers hobbling on, think it's gonna be a terrible flight. But babies always seem to go right to sleep.

Have you guys seen the little ones that have just learned to walk, and are so excited and jubilant they just walk up and down and up and down the aisles the entire eight hours, and their parent(s) have to follow them up and down and up and down. Maybe that annoys some people. I love that xD It's so funny.

The overly-endowed-with-fatty-goodness people is a much bigger issue for me :( This has now happened to me a couple times, where the person next to me would literally be taking up half my seat, couldn't even put the armrest down, etc :( I'm just really glad that I'm not as big as I used to be because what do they do if there's two kind of bigger people trying to sit next to one another?

I didn't mind so much the first time this ever happened because it was only like a two hour flight and I knew ahead of time there was no way, that I was screwed. It was a layover in Dallas or somewhere in Texas which I'd never been to, and EVERYONE was kind of huge, and I was just looking around going ...oh...my god xD This is gonna be bad xD

The other time though it was one of those three-seats rows, and I got wedged in BETWEEN a pretty big COUPLE which I thought was so #######. I just felt kind of...returned to the womb the whole time :( I guess when they picked their seats they left that middle one clear knowing they couldn't fit next to each other and hoping no one would pick that seat, but usually when I fly all the seats are sold, so...ugh :( I don't know how they could solve this, I mean...DOES seem like okay, should just have to buy another seat, but that's kind of harsh. It'd be nice if they had some kind of like...nonfull price the bigger guys had to pay or something :\ I don't know.

There was a kid screaming almost all the way from Paris to New York on Sunday. I don't mean like a baby crying, I mean like a nine-hour wordless temper tantrum. I don't know what was up. Totally inexcusable, unless it was autism or something.

As for fat people, I think I might be a genius but I've devised the perfect solution: arm rests that go all the way down. Most people can probably squeeze in there, but they overlap because of the armrest not going all the way down. Why, why don't they offer these? The arm space could be a problem, but probably not for most people. That's something that would also be a problem for broad-shouldered men as ewll.

they have those in the exit rows...not my thing!

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

I am very irritated by having to share my space with those that were "not accomidated with larger seats" BUT..... I once had a flight from new orleans and was seated in the same row with several of the most famous blues musicians from the city. AND THESE WERE SOME BIG A*S DUDES!!! But being a musician myself and being with legends,, i loved being squeezed in between them,,, talking about music,, having some drinks and them joking about how skinny and white i was.. HAHAHAHAHAHA... ONE IN A MILLION!!

Ahhh...that's true, exit rows do have those.

Tip for anyone flying Delta which I did once last year (I almost always go Continental) - the exit rows have ridiculous amazing leg room. Don't have to worry about the guy in front of you's chair going back, tons to stretch out, etc.

Of course the problem is IF you're so lucky as to also have the entire row to yourself, as I was, and you get all weepy thinking it's the best flight ever, realize first that the armrests don't go up so no you can't just lay down and go to sleep :(

I gotta fly United for the first time in a couple months. Any tips for that one? It's out of D.C. too so I'm a bit worried, not my usual routine

all aircraft are different, as we know and airlines are always changing their configurations. seatguru.com will give you the low down. Honestly, all domestic flights suck so unless you can get a good seat or fly first class... its all the same sh*t!

Amber who sat on your arm? :D Did she even realize?

I'm sorry xD

seatguru :o Never heard of it. Awesome, thanks :)

I'm like...meh, I hate flying. I'm absolutely fine domestic, couldn't care less, but nah this is like...7 or 8 hours or something, DC to London.

I can't ever decide where to sit/what to do on planes :( On the one hand, I want to sit at the window because there I might could actually sleep, something to lean against. On the other, I NEVER pick a window seat because 1. I don't wanna be in that sad situation where you gotta go to the bathroom and you're like trapped in because the guy on the aisle is sleeping and you don't wanna wake him and oh I hate that :( and 2. if the plane starts going down and everyone's gonna die anyway I'm one of those people that knows where the exit is exactly and already has the escape route mapped out and sitting window is not going to help in that situation xD and 3. I superstitiously believe that if I pick an aisle seat early, if there ARE any seats empty on the plane, people are less likely to sit next to me because no one else wants to be blocked in, either.

I have had my own row a fair few times but I doubt it has anything to do with strategy xD My SO one time got an entire CABIN to himself. How does that even happen?

How do you guys feel about putting your seats back? I never will :( I want to but I feel SO guilty, because I'm totally screwing over the guy behind me, I feel like. I'll never touch that button. And then the dude in front of me puts his all the way back. And then it's so uncomfortable the whole way :( One time I had managed to fall asleep with my head down on the tray thing and the guy in front put his chair all the way back very abruptly and squishified the hell out of my head :(

HAHAHAHA... very scandinavian of you not to want to put the seat down. I feel like that sometimes BUT... you put yours down,, the person behind will put theirs down... will be a domino effect until the person that has the last seat on the plane... Sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do!!!
