Since Luz is going to be working now and the city bus does not go to her job we decided it was time she learned to drive.

She did drive a little in PI but as anyone knows that has been there it's just not the same and it is here. So today she passed the written test (congrats baby!) and she can now drive with me in the car. I took her to an empty parking lot and let her drive around a little. My Mustang just isn't the right car for her to learn on. The accelerator peddle is just too touchy and the brakes are also to sensitive. Plus she must put the seat all the way forward to reach the peddles so the steering wheel is in her chest. So.... we went to the auto dealer that sold me my last two cars and talked to him. We told him we wanted a small, easy to drive "learner car". I guess the $1500 rebate is going to stimulate the economy after all. We will use that for a down payment and I will put Luz's name down as the primary person for the loan with me co-signing for her. This will allow her to build up her credit and she will also be able to say it's "her car". The dealer said that since spring is coming he will get a lot of older, less expensive cars in soon. So before they send them off for the auto auction he will call me and let me look them over. (the Ford dealer usually sends the >$5000 cars off to the auction rather than selling them on his lot)

I have to admit that the idea of Luz learning on my Mustang gives me a real stress attack. I even bought a pack of cigs when I found out she passed. :crying:

I will get over it and hopefully everything will go smoothly. The biggest hurdle is getting her used to the idea that a miss is not as good as a mile. In PI if you don't scrape paint everyone is happy. Here, a close call is a bigger deal.

I'm of the opinion that husbands generally shouldn't teach their wives to drive... too much stress all the way around.

WTG Luz!!! Good luck on the driving!

Gary, I can understand how you feel. I had to go through it with my son when he was still learning to drive. Now, of course, my anxiety level has changed because my son is now driving on his own :o . You'll probably feel the same way once Luz gets her full DL and goes out on her own.
