Hi, just passing this along...

you can also go to www.donotcall.gov

REMINDER... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.

YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.

It blocks your number for five (5) years.

You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked.

You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.

It takes about 20 seconds.

Celling Your Soul

Claim: Cell phone users must register their numbers with the national "Do Not Call" directory by a given deadline to prevent their cell phone numbers from being released to telemarketers.

Status: False.

Origins: Despite dire warnings about the imminent release of cell phone numbers to telemarketers that continue to be circulated via e-mail year after year,

cell phone users do not have to register their cell phone numbers with the national Do Not Call registry before a soon-to-pass deadline to head off an onslaught of telemarketing calls. The panic-inducing e-mails (which circulate especially widely every January or June, since many versions of the warning list the end of those months as a cut-off date for registering cell phone numbers with the national Do Not Call registry) grew out of a misunderstanding about the proposed creation of a wireless directory assistance service.

Not true LaL,

I already am getting the telemarketers call my cell phone. And NOOO its not companies I have done business with previously, that are calling (cause they have a right to call by the standards set). I had about 5 telemarketers call in one week, and I was like what is going on. I told them, you are calling a cell phone, and each replied "ma'am cell phones are now included on the published list of numbers, we can add you do our own do not call list, but if you want the calls to stop, you have to register for the national listing".

I had telemarketers call my cell phone too, it didn't happen very often but it did and I never gave it to anyone other than actual people. I was very irritated and let them know about it, I just noticed that the minute you tell them "this is a cell phone, how did you get this number?" they quickly get rid of you like if they're scared or something, some even hung up right away...

They get freaked out when you show resistance, cause if you are on the do not call list, and they call you, their company gets like a $12000 penalty fee.

I know this, cause I used to work in a real estate office a couple years ago, and our office got 3 of these charges, and the broker was going nuts and yelling at all the agents for not double checking if we can call the people.

You are probably going to see a marked increase in companies calling a cell phone if that is ever listed in a contact number for anything (primary or secondary). Companies intersell all the time. If it makes you feel better add yourself to the do not call list. Its still rings true that these numbers were not mass "outed" due to some 411 service, otherwise everyone with a cell phone with major carriers would be experiencing the same thing.

When a company phones you on your cell do this:

A.) Find out what they are selling

B.) Find out the companies name

C.) THEN tell them they are calling a cell.

D.) After they have hurriedly put down the phone, report them.

That's what I did when it happened to me...minus D)...I should have....probably will if it happens again

This is why I never answer any calls from a private number, unavailable number, or any other number I do not recognize. Send them to voice mail. If it is a truly important call, guess what? They will leave a message and you can call right back. If not, they don't and they eventually stop calling. Caller Identification and Voice Mail are there for a purpose, don't be afraid to use them to your advantage.

I've never had them come up as private or unavailable, the number displays who it is. Since I use my cell phone for busines, I think its someone from work. But anyway, I hope the next time one of them calls, I'll get all the info and report them on the Do not call site. Its not a matter of sending to voicemail, cause this doesnt eliminate the problem, they know the number is valid and will keep on calling.

If you let them, companies will share your personal information with other companies.

I usually only get unsolicited calls from political groups and they are free to call you, even if you are on the do not call list.

Well... work colleagues can leave a voice mail too, if you don't recognize them personally. Hell, I've worked for a company where no one answered their phones. Everyone just left voice mails back and forth unless they saw a specific person they were looking for on a caller identification display.

If you can't resist the temptation to answer. I would push the red button as soon as you hear the pitch. Why waste time talking to these boneheads?
