I'm sort of crazy like that. The powers of nature fascinate me. I've been outside in a tornado before. I watched my tree pulled from the roots and dropped like a twig, while my other (only a few meters away) stood unharmed. The feeling was indescribable.

Nooooooo. Not fun. I remember a few in my early days in California, and one in Washington State. No more. I want to move somewhere far from natural disasters. Between the hurricanes in Louisiana growing up and the earthquakes in Cali and Washington I've had enough of that #######.

I've never felt an earthquake, but I have come close. In 1991, there was a major, emphasis on major, explosion at the Exxon refinery in Baton Rouge. My family lived about 10 miles from the refinery at the time, but it shook the entire house. The china was rattling in the cabinet. Anyway, everyone was confused but my dad. He just got big-eyed and said, "Exxon just blew up."

Ugh. I remember that. I was in Hammond and though we didn't feel anything, it was chaos and panic because of the number of locals who had family working at Exxon.

I set that one up for Nevada over a year and half ago. Next is Seattle and then LA although I've been told to lay off after making Hurricane Katrina.

I've felt plenty of them, including the 1971 Sylmar quake, the 1987 Whittier Narrows quake, and the 1994 Northridge quake. It's very disconcerting, to say the least, when supposedly solid ground starts to feel like being on rough ocean water....
