All cats and dogs are subject to inspection at ports of entry for evidence of infectious diseases that can be transmitted to humans.

In order to expedite entry into the United States, we suggest that you do not use straw, hay, grass, or other natural bedding. Our Plant Protection and Quarantine Division does not allow the importation of these materials as they may harbor various plant pests.

All cats imported into Louisiana for any purpose must meet the general requirements of LAC 7:XXI.11705 and must be accompanied by an official health certificate, issued by an accredited veterinarian, showing they have been immunized against rabies within 12 months prior to entry. Exceptions to this Section are cats three months of age or younger which are exempt from the rabies vaccination requirement

Hi!

We brought our cat all the way from Spain to the US. All we needed was a passport (for the cat) issued by a veterinarian, and they did not even look at it. Everything was fine. It is better if he has a microchip, although it is not a requirement.

I got contradictory info calling and bringing my cat at the vet: his assistant said he needs a certificate of good health, then the vet said, no, only the rabbies vaccine...which was administered 2 weeks ago only, and said he doesn't need a 2nd visit as his assitant said. When i underlined this contradiction with his assistant, he told her what he told me. We ended up with more exams just in case.

So, it's needed (at least from Canada) only the rabby vaccine, no certificate of good health.

As for somebody mentionned the chip in the animal's skin...a friend told me this is asked in Europe only, at least i think in France is required. Never heard of it elsewhere or for the US.
