Why don't girls get along with girls?

I swear its an age thing.

I hear some of my younger friends go on about wanting to hang out with guys and only guys and how they can't stand girls.

I remember being this way at around 20...and I kind of grew out of it. I realized that girls weren't out to hurt me, that there are an equal amount of jerks to go around among both sexes.

So I am wondering if its an age thing, or what?

Pish Posh. It's the personality match not a gender issue or even so much an age issue. I have loads of girl friends in various age ranges who love to hang out one on one or in groups and the majority of them came from places I've worked. I know women who claim to only like to have guy friends because they don't get along with girls or whatnot. I think they're just trying to give the impression that they get along so well with guys because they're "cooler" and that girls don't like them because they're "jealous". Of course, I'm sure that's the type of presumptuous comment that makes them not want to be friends with women like me.

Not sure, but I know what you're talking about. I think some of it is sort of a post-postmodern thing, like girls accumulating notches in the bedpost (as if it's a challenge) and trying to drink as much as guys like it's a badge of honor. A girl who badmouths other girls as petty and neurotic--often using the same language that a guy would use to describe an ex or someone who had spurned his advances--might be attempting to assert herself as more freethinking than a girl who would blindly side with the female on any given issue.

I think it's something that most girls grow out of, and much of it is a result of what's perceived as cool.

I think it's a fallacy that women are more capricious, moody, and irrational. The moodiest people I know are guys (testosterone trumps female hormonal fluctuation any day), and guy friends certainly have their spats. That said, I've known a few girls who are real nutters.

I think a girl who says: "I hate girls because they're catty" is probably just as catty herself.

I think girls want people to think they're just one of the guys, but I don't know about that. We have #######'s and they have penises...we're not one of them.
