MORRISTOWN, Tenn. - Three people were arrested Monday in the kidnapping and slaying of a 94-year-old man who was beaten and had his left hand hacked off, authorities said.

Two butcher knives and a hand believed to be that of Willie Lee Morgan were found in one of the suspects' cars, Hamblen County Esco Jarnigan said.

Morgan "died a horrible death" during his attackers' attempt to steal cash from his home in this east Tennessee town, the sheriff said. Morgan had been missing since Saturday and his body was found early Monday.

Arrested were Darrell Nance, 22, Jessica Lane, 23, and Brice Whaley, whose age was not immediately available. Whaley is accused of helping to dispose of the body.

All three were jailed. It was not immediately clear whether they had attorneys.
