After entering the US with a K1 visa, and getting married, does the status change from K1 (fiancee of USC) to K3 (spouse of USC) or does it stay the same K1?

No, your status remains as K-1 until you file for AOS and become a permanent resident. K-3 is a different visa entirely.

K3 is a different visa. When you enter on a K1 visa, the visa dies a sudden death. Your status is derived from the I-94 in your passport, good for 90 days from entry. If you file to adjust status before the I-94 expires, then your status becomes "pending AOS". If it takes you more than 90 days to file, you are "out of status" until you file. Once you file, you are "pending AOS".

K1 is a single entry visa dead on arrival. Don't leave the US without advanced parole or you won't get back in.

K3 is a totally different visa!!! Fiancés of USC's come on a K1 and spouses come on a K3. K3's are already married!

Those who entered on K1's don't change to K3.

when he went in for his social security card, the agent actually told my K1 fiance that since we were now married he needed a NEW visa and almost didnt issue him a card. I almost smacked that woman, what a load of misinformation she had.

Not a new visa. But, you do need to file AOS.

exactly. but she handed him an address to go get a new visa and told him he wasnt legal anymore.
