Haha - I've seen a lot of John Lewis registries, too.

Sorry, I should have realised that it's been discussed on these forums before! I appreciate everyone's feedback, though. I think I'll probably end up making a registry or a list, but only giving it to people when they ask for it.

Weddings are tricky things! I have my parents, Alex's mother and my friends all giving me advice and instructions and I'm just trying to reach a compromise with everyone involved.

I'm going over with around £9K and not much else. We do however through a friend of Nick's family have an appartment to live in rent free and although it is furnished we can gradually fill it with our stuff and aquire things we will need when we do get our own place. My parents have talked us into living in the appartment until mid 2009 then they have a couple of policies due to pay out and we will get around £15K then to maybe start hunting for our own place. We are very much starting at the bottom but at least we starting with something. I know it could be worse.

Doesn't sound like to bad of a deal to me! Good luck!

We are pretty lucky in our situation as well. Chris and I live in a house that my dad owns. We pay a very very minimum rent and I do all the paper work for their investment properties.

Our long term plan is to purchase my grandmothers house when she no longer needs it. So as long as we are patient we will have a fantastic house.

It also works for us because we have a few holiday rental cabins which Chris' mum and dad stay in for free when they visit.

Haha - I wish I was starting at the bottom if it would be like you :luv: I am taking over about £1k to start then maybe another £3k but that will be to use for a mortgage. Jeremy has no savings. We have nowhere to live... So we'll be starting underneath you Debz!! I would *love* to know that we had somewhere to live for my peace of mind but... :P I guess that will come in time - in the meantime I get to panic over my medical and things :)

Hehe - well I point blank refuse to live with Jeremy's aunt - she is a very sweet, lovely lady but has no idea about cleaning and/or hygiene so the place is filthy - messy I could (kinda) cope with but dirty is another thing altogether - she will think nothing of feeding the dogs/cats right off the mattress *puke*

Same here, unless things drag on terribly and Mark's office move occurs with no sign of when I'll be joining him, Mark will stay with his family until we get married... so I'll be there to start with too. But hopefully we'll have a place set up to move to quite soon afterwards - all depends on the timing of the NOA2 receipt really *shrugs helplessly*. Difficult to plan things out properly at this stage.

Thankfully Mark's parents are very clean, so it would be okay for a short while, although the way things are moving at CSC I suspect he's going to have to move without me anyway.

Not too worried about the lack of money angle since I've learned valuable budgeting lessons from my Mum and already worked out how we can manage on Mark's wage until I can find work... just means no reckless splurging or extras.

Yeah - I know we'll get by - I'm hoping to do voluntary work and maybe do some babysitting or something to bring in a little bit of spending money for myself purely so I don't feel like I am sponging off of Jeremy all the time :)

Ok - I have to write my vows and I don't even know where to start... any ideas people?!?!

I'm thinking of having this as a reading... thought it might help give you some ideas:

I Promise

Dorothy R. Colgan

I promise to give you the best of myself

and to ask of you no more than you can give.

I promise to respect you as your own person

and to realise that your interests, desires and needs

are no less important than my own.

I promise to share with you my time and my attention

and to bring joy, strength and imagination to our relationship.

I promise to keep myself open to you,

to let you see through the window of my world into my innermost fears

and feelings, secrets and dreams.

I promise to grow along with you,

to be willing to face changes in order to keep our relationship alive and exciting.

I promise to love you in good times and in bad,

with all I have to give and all I feel inside in the only way I know how.

Completely and forever.

I can't believe it's only Tuesday *sighs* I think this is going to be another week where I keep feeling like it should be Friday and hating the fact that I have to get out of bed. I'm convinced that my body wants to hibernate through January! Oh well.
